This is a record of an interview with Li Jin, the mother-in-law of Lay Practitioner Huang Yuzhen. She sought at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia and now resides in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. This account reflects upon her transition from the cycle of rebirth to the Western Land. Recorded by the chief writer, Venerable HaiZe, on April 29, 2022.
Li Jin speaks:
". I am Li Jin. I am so incredibly happy right now, because just a moment ago, Practitioner Su brought my husband and me to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. I had heard people speak of this place before—they said it was a wonderful place—but I never knew what it actually looked like. Now that I am here, I see it for myself. It is so bright, so pristine, and so pure. There are so many Bodhisattvas standing before us, and everyone is so joyful, as if they are here to welcome us. We truly feel unworthy of such a grand reception."
"When I look back on my life, I, Li Jin, spent my entire existence in a state of constant, frantic busyness. Even after I passed away, I found myself trapped in of a fish. I was caught by others, and the pain was unbearable. But all of that is in the past now. I am here, and I can finally live a life of true peace and ! Yuzhen, my dear, thank you so much for arranging the Chao Du for your father and me. If it were not for your filial heart, I would still be suffering in that dark place."
"It was Practitioner Su who saved us. To be perfectly honest, I did not even realise I had been reborn as a fish. I only remember a brilliant golden light and a powerful force lifting me up. Then, my fish form was stripped away, and I was shocked—I thought to myself, 'How did I end up as a fish?' I truly do not know how to describe my at that moment. I was terrified, yet so fortunate that someone had come to rescue me. If not for that, I do not know how much longer I would have been trapped in that fish body."
"After that, I stayed at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. This temple is truly so comfortable—it is nothing like the stories people tell about temples being places of hardship. Here, we are well-housed and well-fed. Even though the meals are all vegetarian, they are delicious—so, so delicious! I never knew vegetarian food could taste this good. This place really knows how to cook; everyone who eats here has nothing but praise for the food."
"Yuzhen, my dear! Your mother has been busy her entire life, and it is only now, after passing away, that I have finally been able to let out a long sigh of relief and truly begin to shed my suffering. Listening to the sutras here, I have come to understand that it was Namo Amituofo who saved us. You have been chanting Namo Amituofo, and that is such a wonderful thing. Having the karmic connection to encounter Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su is a great blessing. If you continue to follow them, the entire family will be protected and blessed. Your father and I can finally rest in peace here."
"This place is the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. I can see that Namo Amituofo loves us very much. People often say that 'Heaven loves the simple-hearted,' and that must be why we were allowed to come to such a magnificent place. Thank you, Namo Amituofo. Thank you, Practitioner Su. Thank you to everyone."
"Namo Amituofo."
