The Dharma Wealth of Merit

An Interview with Venerable Chang Gao

Reflections on Spiritual Deliverance at Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre

Venerable Chang Gao, a monastic residing at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia, sought deliverance through the guidance of Practitioner Su. This interview, recorded on April 22, 2019, captures his reflections on his daily practice and the profound work of spiritual deliverance.

Venerable Chang Gao speaks:

"Namo Amituofo. I am Chang Gao. Every single day, I follow Practitioner Su to perform the sacred work of . I am honoured to be a member of Practitioner Su's morning deliverance team; this is the method through which I practise diligently every day. I dare not be the slightest bit lax, for I know deeply that it is only because of Practitioner Su's presence that I have the opportunity to save the sentient beings who share a karmic affinity with me. These beings are those with whom I have been connected across immeasurable, boundless lifetimes. Now, they are trapped within the space of the six realms of rebirth in the Saha world, or perhaps suffering within the vast reaches of the Milky Way. It is only because Practitioner Su uses the power of his Body to open up space that I am able to deliver them to the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. Without this, they would continue to suffer in those spaces, with no hope of ever finding a way out. I cannot bear to see them lose such a precious opportunity to be saved and to leave their suffering behind, so I remain ever vigilant, terrified of missing even a single chance to help them."

The Inconceivable Power of Deliverance

"The power of merit required to truly deliver sentient beings to the Western Land is absolutely inconceivable. This is why Practitioner Su repeatedly reminds the students of Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre to seize the one hour of morning walking meditation for deliverance. We must not be drowsy; we must save as many as we possibly can, and then save even more. When it comes to and the practice of the Buddha's path, or even when we are attempting to resolve conflicts with sentient beings, we must accumulate merit and . Only then can we succeed. Merit and blessings are the essential Dharma wealth that no one can do without. Those who lack sufficient merit and blessings will find it impossible to encounter good causes and conditions or the guidance of a true spiritual friend. They will find it difficult to resolve their conflicts with sentient beings, will remain entangled in the karmic debts of their past, and will find it even harder to realise their true nature."

The of Practitioner Su

"The students of Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre are truly fortunate to have Practitioner Su to rely upon. Whether it is the compensation provided to sentient beings when resolving conflicts—where each being might receive twenty, fifty, or even a hundred taels of gold—or the restoration of their original state, this represents a tremendous power of resolution. It is my sincere hope that these sentient beings can accept this resolution, depart from the bodies of the fourfold assembly, and be delivered to the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. The purpose of this is to allow everyone to be purified, to be free from the control of these sentient beings, and to find their true selves as soon as possible. I have never heard of such a method of resolution anywhere else in the world.

This is only possible because Practitioner Su's Dharma wealth of merit is immeasurable and boundless, stretching beyond any horizon; only with such conditions can he resolve these deep-seated karmic grievances. This is something Practitioner Su has achieved through his own tireless efforts. Practitioner Su, with his Awakened Dharma Body, is able to travel freely back and forth to the Western Land, yet he works so diligently. He is not busy for his own sake; he is busy for the sake of saving sentient beings. He works to earn this Dharma wealth of merit for all of us, to help sentient beings leave suffering behind, and to assist everyone in realising their true nature at the earliest possible time."

A Vow of Eternal Gratitude

"During the morning deliverance sessions, Practitioner Su dedicates his merit to the members of our deliverance team, because he knows how much we need it and how much we still need to strive in our practice. I will forever keep Practitioner Su's compassion and his loving care for us in my heart. I will follow Practitioner Su always, for as long as I exist.

Namo Amituofo."
