During the second session of the , Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju offered profound guidance on the nature of meditative concentration. He emphasised that the attainment of Buddha-Recitation Samadhi is the essential foundation for any practitioner seeking to realise their true nature and achieve spiritual accomplishment.
If your practice of chanting the name of or performing prostrations is interrupted by a scattered mind or , you are far from the state of true meditative concentration. These obstacles indicate that your focus has not yet stabilised; it is vital to return to your practice with renewed sincerity and diligence.
The teaching, "When the heart is pure, the land is pure," reveals that the is a state of being that is clear, still, and immovable. When your heart reaches this purity, it remains untouched by the chaos of the world. No matter how the external environment shifts, these disturbances cannot stain your purity or move your heart from its centre.
This stillness is the fruit of your dedication to concentration. When your heart is free from the ripples of desire, it becomes a mirror of absolute clarity. In this state, you are prepared to face any challenge, whether it manifests as external obstacles, negative influences, or the internal demons of your own mind.
When there is no heart-movement, there is , and consequently, there is no fear. By maintaining this profound stillness, you can utilise the power of concentration, purity, , and vast mind-capacity to subdue demonic enemies and attain the subtle, profound . This is the path of the practitioner who remains unmoved in the face of adversity.
To achieve this, you must rely on the Three Learnings of , Concentration, and Wisdom. You must uphold the Precepts with integrity so that your meditative concentration can flourish. Once your concentration is firm, Wisdom will naturally manifest. This is the essential skill for anyone who has vowed to save the world and rescue suffering beings from the cycle of rebirth.
