The Harmonious Path of the Speaker

A true speaker of the Dharma is one who can harmonise principle and practice with complete ease. Regardless of whether they are speaking directly or using subtle metaphors, they never stray from the core of the Dharma or the essential teachings of the . Their words serve to help others recognise the illusory nature of this world and the reality of one's awakened nature. They clarify the distinction between confusion and , between suffering and , and they provide clear guidance on how to achieve liberation from the cycle of rebirth and be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.

The speaker of the Dharma is, in essence, a propagator of the Dharma. It is said that people spread the Dharma, for the Dharma does not spread itself. If a speaker can cause the teachings to resonate deeply within the hearts of beings, allowing those who hear the Dharma to resolve their inner conflicts and receive the benefits of the Dharma, then it is a great fortune for the listeners.

Adapting to the Potential of Others

A skilled speaker of the Dharma possesses the ability to observe the potential of those who listen. Regardless of the time or the place, they can draw upon any situation to provide a teaching that alleviates the suffering of beings. Their conduct and their words serve as a living example, teaching others to understand the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way, while helping them to recognise the true facts of reality.

Nature as a Living Classroom

When teaching the Dharma, the listeners need not always be seated in a formal setting. Teaching can also be conducted in a lively and dynamic manner through outdoor sessions. By engaging with the natural world, a speaker can facilitate a dialogue with all forms of life, including:

  • The flora and fauna, such as flowers, grasses, and trees.
  • The creatures of the earth and the various animals and plants.
  • The vast sky, the floating clouds, and the elements of nature.
  • The sentient beings of the spiritual realms.

These lives are not only the objects of our but also serve as living textbooks that can be utilised when teaching the Dharma.

The Necessity of Personal Transformation

A speaker of the Dharma helps the listener to identify their own attachments, their erroneous views, and their misguided practices. They emphasise the importance of changing one's personality traits. However, it is vital to understand that the speaker can only point the way; the listener must rely on their own practical efforts to change their ways before they can truly receive the benefits of the Dharma.

As the listener engages in diligent practice and continues to purify their Body-Mind-Spirit, they will naturally begin to receive the messages from Namo Amituofo and from the teachers. The speaker of the Dharma provides the guidance on how to purify oneself and how to cultivate compassion, Wisdom, and virtue. They teach the methods of observing the Discipline (), practising meditative concentration, and developing Wisdom (Prajna). Yet, it remains the responsibility of the listener to put these teachings into actual practice, for only then will the opportunity for true arise.
