The Unwavering Resolve of Dharmakara

The verse, "My practice is determined by firm strength, only the Buddha's holy wisdom can verify it," expresses the profound depth of the vows and practices undertaken by long ago. These words reveal a resolve that is eternally firm, immovable, and rooted in a heart that is entirely authentic and devoid of any falsehood.

Such a monumental commitment is beyond the reach of ordinary perception. It is a level of sincerity and dedication that only a Buddha can truly witness and verify. In this context, it was the Teacher, Lokesvararaja Buddha, who was able to perceive and confirm the truth of these vows.

The Foundation of Buddhist Practice

For all Buddhist practitioners who aspire to attain Buddhahood, the vow and the practice must be as firm and immovable as a mountain of solid rock. This steadfastness is not merely a mental exercise; it is the essential foundation for your spiritual journey.

As you move forward on this path, your Body-Mind-Spirit must be capable of enduring the various tests and challenges that life presents. When you maintain this unwavering strength, every trial you encounter becomes an opportunity for growth. These experiences serve to purify your heart, washing away the dust of past attachments and revealing the clarity of your original nature.

The Inconceivable Wisdom of the Buddha

The wisdom of the Buddha is vast, boundless, and deep beyond measure. It is difficult to quantify or fully grasp with the limited tools of human language. Those who allow their lives to be governed by their own wandering thoughts and ego-driven find it difficult to comprehend the true nature of this wisdom.

This is precisely why Dharmakara Bhikshu requested Lokesvararaja Buddha to bear witness to his vows. It was through this sacred verification that his vows were fulfilled, eventually leading to the creation of the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. Without this divine validation, the path would not have manifested as it has for the benefit of all sentient beings.

Transcending the Limits of Thought

The wisdom of the Buddha is described in the sutras through many profound terms:

  • Inconceivable Wisdom: A depth that transcends all human logic.
  • Unspeakable Wisdom: A truth that cannot be fully captured by words.
  • Great Broad Wisdom of the : A that encompasses all beings.
  • Peerless and Unmatched Wisdom: A state of that has no equal.
  • Supreme and Victorious Wisdom: The highest attainment of the enlightened mind.
  • Universal Wisdom: A light that shines upon all corners of the universe.
  • Inconceivable Wisdom of Great Power and Virtue: A transformative force that guides souls to liberation.

The wisdom of the Buddha is truly inconceivable; it is not something that can be reached by ordinary thinking. We use the limited meanings available in human language to construct sentences, hoping to catch a glimpse of this wisdom. However, it is only when your practice becomes firm and immovable, and when you reach the state where only the Buddha's holy wisdom can verify your path, that you will truly understand.
