The Fleeting Nature of Time and the Path to Awakening
Teachings from Namo Amituofo
Recorded and transcribed by Namo Amituofo’s disciple, Venerable HaiZe on October 19, 2025
The Preciousness of Every Passing Moment
Days pass by in the blink of an eye, slipping through our fingers like water. Within every single second, you possess the power to act with purpose, or you may allow that time to flow away into nothingness. How you spend your time depends entirely upon your own Causal Conditions, your level of , your Wisdom, and the strength of your vows.
As you walk the path of practice, you must ask yourself: are you moving forward under the light of the Buddha's , or are you allowing your progress to be obstructed by the manifestation of your own ? When your take control, it becomes incredibly difficult to maintain a diligent practice. You may find yourself struggling, feeling as though you are merely drifting through life rather than actively cultivating your spirit.
The Rarity of This Spiritual Opportunity
It is a profound truth that human life is difficult to obtain, the Buddha’s teachings are difficult to hear, and the path is difficult to encounter. To be able to meet Namo Amituofo, who manifests here to save and teach all beings, is truly the rarest of all occurrences. It is the hardship among hardships, none greater than this. If you can follow Namo Amituofo in the work of saving all beings, you will find that in these fleeting days, not a single moment is wasted. Every step you take will be firm and grounded, and the first beings you will save are those residing within your own body.
The Sentient Beings Within Your Own Body
Your human body is composed of countless cells, and each one of these is a sentient being with whom you share a karmic connection. These beings include your ancestors and teachers from beginningless lifetimes, your karmic creditors who seek balance for past harms, and your family members and loved ones from this and previous lives.
If these cellular beings, along with the karmic creditors residing within your body, remain trapped by the weight of karma, you will spend your entire life cycling through the suffering of birth, aging, sickness, and death. However, if these beings and your karmic creditors are transformed through your practice, they become those who have realised their true nature. In that state, you will no longer be subject to the suffering of aging or illness. You will attain a state where you do not grow old, you do not get sick, and the spirit does not die, allowing you to be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
The Choice Before the Students of Hsiang Kuang
To the students of the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, the place where Namo Amituofo truly abides: you are currently in the midst of your practice. You must decide how you will spend these fleeting days. Will you choose to change your personality traits, diligently face and overcome the tests of your physical body and your karma, and seize the opportunity to transform your karma and realise your true nature? Or will you remain unchanged, unable to face these challenges, and continue to pass your life in the cycle of birth, aging, sickness, and death?
The answer lies in your compassion, your Wisdom, and whether you truly have faith in the Buddha-vow and are willing to follow the path of Namo Amituofo.
Transforming into Wisdom
Spiritual life is without beginning or end. Ordinary people, governed by the power of their karma, pass through life after life in a hurried, unconscious state. Every situation you encounter is recorded in your , where it becomes the seeds of future karma and the causes and effects that dictate your reality. Because you are not yet the master of your own mind, you are forced to endure the suffering of .
However, Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and those who have realised their true nature have already achieved the transformation of consciousness into wisdom. When they see, hear, smell, taste, or touch, they do so without attachment. Because they have no ego-clinging, these experiences do not enter the storehouse consciousness to become new karma. Therefore, they do not suffer under the control of karmic forces. Instead, they live in a state of cool, refreshing clarity and freedom, Living the Vows: The Direct Way to .
Students of Hsiang Kuang, the choice is yours. Will you remain an ordinary person, suffering the cycle of birth, aging, sickness, and death, or will you become a practitioner who transforms their consciousness into wisdom, living a life of clarity and freedom? Namo Amituofo.
