The Founder's Final Wish
An Interview with the Spirit of Chang Yung-fa, Founder of the Evergreen Group
Recorded on August 26, 2018
This is a record of an interview with Chang Yung-fa, the founder of the Evergreen Group, who sought at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. He now resides in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. This account reflects upon his life and his observations of the assembly. Recorded by the chief writer, Shi Faxin, on August 26, 2018.
Chang Yung-fa speaks:
"Namo Amituofo. Throughout my life, the person I am most grateful for is myself. It was my daring, competitive spirit that led to my success. Today, I am participating in a grand event—a magnificent Dharma assembly. Namo Amituofo stands right before us.
Practitioner Su, my benefactor, makes a gesture, and a vast, endless stream of monastics rushes forward. I have never seen such incredible speed. In an instant, immeasurable and boundless beams of light, like shooting stars, bring back countless spirits."
The Power of Deliverance in the Deep
"In the ocean, Practitioner Su moves faster than any fish. He reaches the very bottom of the sea in a flash and begins to gather the spirits, rolling them up, layer by layer. As he does this, he shines the Buddha-light upon them. It is truly astonishing to watch these sea creatures regain their human forms—eyes, noses, and faces—as their broken, fragmented bodies become whole again. This scene is absolutely breathtaking.
Practitioner Su’s daring spirit is so incredibly efficient. With just a single recitation of the Buddha-name, he saves so many people. I do not have a , so I can only watch from here and there. Practitioner Su has even performed Chao Du for those in the maritime sectors of the Evergreen Group. I am truly grateful. This kind of deliverance is far more secure than any accident insurance policy."
A Lesson from the Depths
"I have personally witnessed ships sinking, pulled down to the depths by countless spirits in the sea. That scene was absolutely terrifying—there was nowhere to hide, no way to escape. I imagine these sentient beings in the ocean must have suffered immensely. I truly hope that the spirits I saw today have all been saved by Practitioner Su.
Deliverance is not as simple as just speaking words. Only true, great compassionate power has the strength to actually deliver a spirit to the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. Seeing everyone leave their suffering behind fills me with such .
I only encountered Practitioner Su after I had already passed away and lost my physical body. If I had met him sooner, I would have been willing to pay any price to support such a noble cause—a cause that truly helps people. Chartering a plane to carry everyone to receive deliverance would be a wonderful thing to do. I hope that the people at Evergreen, if they still care about their old boss, can help me realise this wish. Namo Amituofo."
