If you are a practitioner, your duty is to work hard at purifying yourself. You must strive to recognise the true face of impermanence and the reality of the cycle of reincarnation. When you understand the truth of samsara, you will no longer be deceived by the fleeting nature of this world, and you will be able to engage in your practice with unwavering diligence.

The Path to Liberation

By relying on the two-power method—your own sincere effort combined with the compassionate power of Namo Amituofo—you can make significant progress. When you chant the Buddha-name and make a firm vow to be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, you will receive the compassionate blessings of Namo Amituofo. This support provides you with the opportunity to break through the heavy weight of your karma. You will no longer be trapped by the suffering of birth, aging, sickness, and death, nor will you be pulled into the swirling vortex of karmic consequences.

The Mastery of Continuous Chanting

As you practise, your chanting will transform your karma. This happens when your chanting becomes a continuous, flowing stream that never stops, maintained throughout the 24/7. There are two ways in which this transformation manifests:

• You may reach a state where you know the exact time of your departure, having been informed by Namo Amituofo himself of the precise moment you will be led to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
• Alternatively, through the success of your chanting practice, you may attain the ability to depart for the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss at will.

To know the path to the Western Pure Land is a profound achievement. It means that whenever you wish to leave this world, you may do so without being restricted by the cycle of birth and death. This is the true freedom of a practitioner whose concentration has reached a state of singular focus.
