To be a truly complete human being, one must cultivate and maintain the three essential pillars of existence: , the mind, and the spirit. These three components are not merely separate entities; they are deeply interconnected facets of your being. While they can function independently, they are designed to work in perfect harmony. In most instances, they collaborate to complete the tasks of your daily life. Therefore, it is vital to establish clear channels of communication and coordination between them.
The Leadership of the Heart
The heart acts as the primary leader and guide for the body and the spirit. Once you have integrated these three aspects, you must act according to the tasks you have coordinated. The heart must be ready at all times to accept change and issue clear instructions, inviting the body and the spirit to cooperate in their execution. When the body and the spirit are aligned and receptive to the instructions of the heart, the entire system functions with integrity. This is when the three hun souls and seven po souls are whole. Such a person possesses a complete Body-Mind-Spirit, leading to a life defined by health, soundness, and clarity.
Navigating the Challenges of Aging and Illness
When you face the challenges of aging or the onset of illness, you must understand that it is primarily the physical body that is experiencing these symptoms. The heart and the spirit do not necessarily age or fall ill at the same rate. However, because of the various symptoms and the profound impact of physical suffering, the heart and spirit often experience disturbances, fluctuations, and intense emotional responses. These disturbances, caused by changes in the physical body, inevitably trigger shifts within the heart and spirit. If these shifts are negative, they will create a feedback loop that drags the body further into a state of decline. Conversely, if you can foster positive changes, you will similarly uplift the heart and spirit, creating a path toward healing.
The Power of Right Thought and Purification
During times of aging or the pain of illness, a practitioner must hold firmly to right thought. You must be aware of the suffering without allowing it to dominate your . The heart and spirit must remain in a state of meditative concentration. Do not mistake the temporary nature of physical pain for your true reality. Recognize the illness, but focus your energy on chanting the Buddha-name, engaging in purification, and transforming your thoughts. When the beings within our bodies, along with your heart and spirit, are simultaneously purified and corrected by the power of the Buddha-name, you can effectively transform the suffering of illness. As the symptoms improve, or even vanish entirely, you are witnessing the process of transforming . This is the true path to liberation.
