On the twenty-first of March, 2026, Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju offered these profound teachings on the nature of the heart.
The Buddha’s teachings state that all dharmas are mind-only. The heart is the source of all phenomena, and it acts as the master of our body and spirit. It is often said that the heart is like a master painter, capable of creating the entire world. The Five Aggregates—form, feeling, perception, impulse, and —all arise from this source. There is nothing in existence that the heart does not create.
The heart is the most brilliant artist. It paints the myriad scenes of the world, from the most mundane to the most sublime. It uses a vast palette of colours to create intricate patterns and diverse landscapes. Every experience we have, whether it is a sensation, a thought, or a deep-seated impulse, originates from the movement of the heart.
The six realms of rebirth and the Four Sacred Realms are all manifestations of the heart. We travel to these realms according to the direction of our own thoughts. Consider the mechanics of how we shape our future:
The heart and the spirit are inseparable. Wherever your thoughts lead, your spirit follows. If you can transform your heart, your karmic results will transform accordingly. However, if your heart remains trapped in deep attachment, your karmic outcome becomes fixed. Whether it is suffering or happiness, there is no room for change until you release that attachment.
People live their lives according to their different thoughts, preferences, and desires. To truly progress in your practice, you must adopt the great direction of and Wisdom (Prajna). This transformation begins within your own heart:
Delusion, discrimination, and attachment act like a thick, dark fog. They cover the original Goodness and sincerity that have always existed within your heart. They prevent you from seeing your true self.
The six-character name, "Namo Amituofo," is the greatest gift that Namo Amituofo has bestowed upon all beings. When you chant, you must do so with absolute sincerity and true faith, without a shred of doubt. As you chant each Buddha-name, you will find that you can distance yourself from and eventually subdue your delusion, discrimination, and attachment.
By continuing this practice, you will be able to:
This is the most effective way to help all beings rediscover their original, pure nature and return to their true self. May you chant Namo Amituofo all the way to the of Ultimate Bliss.
