The heart-mind possesses the infinite capacity to give rise to all phenomena. Indeed, all dharmas are mind-only. Because the suffering of sentient beings is boundless and seemingly endless, the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas have manifested various teachings and methods to address this profound distress. These methods are not arbitrary; they are compassionate responses designed to guide beings toward liberation.
The teachings provided by Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, ancestral masters, true spiritual friends, and those who have realised their true nature are perfectly adapted to the needs of beings across different times and spaces. These teachings always operate in alignment with the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way. By flowing naturally with the , these methods effectively resolve the suffering of beings and help them navigate through all manner of difficulties.
While all dharmas are mind-only, the nature of that creation depends entirely on the state of the heart. For beings trapped within the six realms of rebirth, the mind is governed by impermanent karmic forces. This mind is clouded by the illusion of a separate self, by selfishness, and by the accumulation of past actions. Consequently, the paths they walk and the causes they sow manifest as the various realms of existence, each corresponding to a different space and dimension.
These realms are distinguished by the state of the mind that created them. Within the laws of Causal Conditions, beings experience the fruits of their actions. Whether one encounters or suffering, every experience is a direct result of the karmic seeds planted by the mind. It is a cycle of creation that continues until the mind is purified and the true nature is revealed.
In contrast, the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss is a Buddha-land created from the pure, enlightened nature of . Every one of the Forty-eight Great Vows was established by Namo Amituofo to save beings and to respond perfectly to their deepest aspirations. These vows serve as the foundation for the various methods that allow beings in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss to have their wishes fulfilled.
Within this realm, free from suffering and illuminated by infinite light and infinite life, beings can practise the Dharma with total clarity. This environment is specifically designed to support them until they reach full and Buddhahood. The beings of the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss are categorised into four lands and nine grades, a classification that reflects the degree of their spiritual purification and the refinement of their spiritual quality.
In truth, these distinctions of the four lands and nine grades exist within the vast, all-encompassing environment of the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. Because all dharmas are mind-only, the heart of each being naturally gravitates toward the level of attainment that corresponds to their own level of purity and spiritual depth. The space we inhabit is a reflection of our own inner state.
If your heart is pure and free from defilement, you will naturally perceive the radiant light of your own true self. However, if your mind is cluttered with worldly attachments and polluted by the , it becomes difficult to attain true clarity. You must be courageous and diligent in your practice. Work to purify your heart, layer by layer, removing the obstacles that obscure your vision and washing away the dust of worldly attachments.
When you face the challenges of the mind with determination, you will overcome the confusion that has held you back for so long. Only then can you reach full awakening, see your true nature, and behold your original, authentic face. Recorded and transcribed by Namo Amituofo’s disciple, Venerable HaiZe.
