Recorded and transcribed by Namo Amituofo’s disciple, Venerable HaiZe.

On the nineteenth of July, 2025, during the midday offering, Namo Amituofo provided the following discourse regarding the nature of our hearts.

The Heart of Pure Goodness

The Heart of Pure Goodness is your original, fundamental heart. It is deeply contained within your true self and your inherent Buddha-nature. However, because you have been stained by confusion for so long, this pure heart has been obscured. You have been unable to see it, and it remains hidden from your view. This heart, which has been tainted by confusion, is what we call the karmic heart.

Within the cycle of reincarnation, this heart is constantly shifting. It is not stable, and it is not peaceful. Consider the nature of this fluctuation:

  • Sometimes it is good, and sometimes it is evil.
  • Sometimes it experiences the bitterness of suffering, and sometimes it tastes the fleeting sweetness of happiness.
  • Over the course of accumulated lifetimes, you have endured endless suffering.
  • Your heart has become scarred and broken, and at times, the pain is truly unbearable.

The Dance of True and False Selves

You may ask, where is this original heart? Where is your true self? If you can find it, you will be able to stop the cycle of suffering and cease the accumulation of . The true self and the karmic force are like light and shadow; they exist in a state of mutual concealment.

When the force of your karma is prominent, your true self remains hidden. Conversely, when your true self is revealed, the karmic force will naturally fade and vanish. The true self and the false self must work together in this life. You must use this false body to search for the true self, and once you have found it, you must use the power of that true self to guide your body, allowing the capabilities of your true self to manifest fully.

The Repository of Names

In every life, you have changed your appearance and your name. Every single name you have ever held is recorded within the . There are countless names and countless titles, layered upon one another in a way that is impossible to count. This heart follows every name, every title, and every role you have played, suffering the consequences of karma.

Because you are pulled by this karma, your heart is in a state of constant agitation. It is difficult to stop these waves of emotion and desire. You must ask yourself: when will this cycle finally rest? The Heart of Pure Goodness is something that all beings possess inherently. It has not been worn down by the cycle of reincarnation, nor has it increased through your acts of Generosity (Giving) or good deeds.

The Unchanging Nature of the True Self

Your true self remains exactly as it has always been. It is:

  • Unborn and undying, existing beyond the limitations of time.
  • Neither dirty nor clean, remaining pristine regardless of your circumstances.
  • Neither increasing nor decreasing, for it is complete and perfect in itself.
  • Completely unharmed, no matter what you have experienced in your many lives.

If you can find this heart and allow it to manifest, you will be able to take charge of your own life. You will find happiness without suffering, freedom without worry, and a cool, without the heat of affliction. This is the manifestation of the power of your true self, which enables you to save countless suffering beings.

The Sanctuary of Namo Amituofo

This is the truth of reality, yet most beings do not know it. Even if they do know it, they often lack the strength to find it, and so they continue to suffer under the weight of their own karma. Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Goombungee, Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia, is the place where Namo Amituofo is residing here.

Namo Amituofo has appeared in this world to save beings from their suffering, to resolve their difficulties, and to guide them to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. By practising here, the Buddha will assist you in finding your Heart of Pure Goodness so that your true self may be revealed. You must cherish every minute and every second, for every fleeting moment is an opportunity for .
