The Inherent Nature of

Compassion and mind-capacity are the vital elements that no practitioner can lack if they wish to attain Buddhahood. These qualities are the very essence of Goodness, existing naturally within our true self. They are not something that can be forced or manufactured through external effort; rather, they are innate, waiting to be uncovered like the sun emerging from behind the clouds.

In our current state, however, these precious qualities are often obscured. We find them buried deep beneath layers of our own making, unable to shine forth. They are hidden by our attachment to self-interest, our obsession with personal gain, and our rigid ego-attachment. They are further clouded by our subjective views and the constant cycle of delusions, discriminations, and attachments that define our worldly existence.

Rediscovering the True Self

To reclaim this compassion and expand our mind-capacity, we must look to the natural state of our true self. This manifestation is not a distant goal but a way of living that reveals itself in our daily hearts and actions:

  • Selfless Consideration: We begin to think of others before ourselves, stepping away from the narrow path of selfishness and personal profit.
  • Responding to Suffering: When we witness the suffering of other beings, a natural impulse arises from within our hearts to save them and help them leave suffering behind.
  • The Path of : We realise that to truly help others, we must first achieve our own Awakening and attain Buddhahood, thereby gaining the wisdom and power to guide all beings.
  • Empathy for the Helpless: We develop a profound understanding of the suffering of beings who are unable to take charge of their own lives, and we learn to embrace them with a compassionate heart.
  • Action Without Attachment: Even when we are active in the world, our minds remain still and unmoving. We work to alleviate the suffering of others without seeking any reward or recognition.
  • Unconditional Giving: Through selfless and service, we strive to fulfill the wishes of sentient beings and provide them with true happiness.

The Foundation of Faith, Vows, and Practice

As we walk this path, we must actively accumulate the for rebirth in the through our Faith, Vows, and Practice. This commitment manifests in several profound ways:

  • Universal Respect: We learn to cherish the lives of all beings, from the smallest insects to the largest creatures, treating every life with absolute equality.
  • Infinite Tolerance: We cultivate the strength to embrace the faults, rudeness, anger, slander, and even the attacks of others without losing our inner peace.
  • Following the Sages: We look to the hearts, the physical and verbal teachings, and the unwavering Faith, Vows, and Practice of the Buddha or and those who have realised their true nature.

The Necessity of Growth

If a practitioner lacks compassion and a vast mind-capacity, they will inevitably encounter countless confusions and obstacles along their journey. Without these foundations, spiritual achievements become difficult to attain, and the path to the Western Pure Land may remain obscured by the fog of our own ego.

Compassion is truly infinite, and the capacity of the mind is boundless. In your daily practice, it is of the utmost importance that you nurture this compassion and continuously expand your mind-capacity. By doing so, you align yourself with the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way, ensuring that your journey leads you home to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
