Teachings from Namo Amituofo:

The path of practice is a deeply personal journey that belongs entirely to you. No one else can walk this path on your behalf, and no one else can bear the consequences of your choices. As you walk this road, you will find yourself in many different states of mind and action:

The Many Facets of Practice

  • Diligent practice versus laziness: Are you truly putting forth the effort required to purify your heart, or are you allowing yourself to remain stagnant?
  • Advancing, regressing, or standing still: Are you moving forward toward , slipping back into old habits, or simply marking time without genuine progress?
  • Repenting and changing: Have you truly begun to repent and change your ways, or are you still clinging to the patterns of the past?
  • Observing the : Do you hold firmly to the Precepts, do you break them, or is your commitment inconsistent, wavering between discipline and indulgence?
  • Listening to the : Do you listen with an open heart, or do you practise selective hearing, accepting only the teachings that please you while ignoring those that challenge your ego?

In all these various situations, you must discern clearly. If a particular state of mind or action is helpful to your practice, you must engage in it actively and positively. If, however, you find that your thoughts or actions are of no benefit to your spiritual growth, you must quickly repent and change your ways.

The Unseen Operation of

Namo Amituofo, Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju, Practitioner Su, and the Dragon and Heaven Dharma Protectors see your progress and your struggles with absolute clarity. They observe the laws of karma and cause and effect as they operate within your life. It is important to understand that these outcomes are not arranged or manipulated by anyone; they are the natural, inevitable result of the laws of karma and cause and effect operating in the universe.

The Path of Self-Mastery

Your practice does not depend on others; it depends entirely upon yourself. Beyond receiving the guidance of the Buddha, Bodhisattvas, your true spiritual friend, and the patriarchs and venerable masters, you must face yourself with honesty and courage. Growth occurs through the process of internalisation and self-requirement. You must learn to restrain and manage your own words, deeds, and thoughts. When you interact with others, you must maintain a calm and steady heart, rather than demanding that others change to suit your expectations.

The Mirror of

True practice requires that you be strict with yourself while remaining lenient and compassionate toward others. You should focus only on your own faults and never dwell upon the shortcomings of others. Everything you do should be for the benefit of all beings. When you face the events of the world, maintain a calm and peaceful mind. No matter how others treat you, how they view you, or how they criticise you, you must remain unmoved. If you are wrong, change your ways; if you are right, continue your path with humility. In all things, face the world with a heart of equanimity.
