Teachings from Namo Amituofo
Recorded by Venerable HaiZe on 28 May 2022
The Harmony of Body and Spirit
When you gather together for group prostrations, are you truly engaging in diligent practice with sincerity? As you chant, are you listening intently to every syllable of the sacred name of Namo Amituofo? The space between rising and bowing should be filled entirely with the sound of the Buddha-name. Does your physical movement flow in perfect harmony with the rhythm of the chanting? This synchronization is essential for a focused and meditative practice.
Have you felt the waves of Buddha-light, warm and radiant, gently bathing your body and spirit? This is the blessing that Namo Amituofo bestows upon you; it is the energy of the Buddha, offered to nourish your true nature. When you rise from a , do you stand tall with your chest open, your eyes fixed upon the image of the Buddha? This posture reflects a heart that is ready to receive the Buddha's guidance.
A Path to Salvation for All
Consider the residing within your body. If they are able to see Namo Amituofo standing before them, with hands outstretched to welcome them, they may be moved to accept this salvation and be led to the of Ultimate Bliss. This process of liberation requires patience and persistence:
- If they do not accept the invitation the first time, we continue to chant.
- If they do not accept the second time, we remain steadfast in our practice.
- Even if it takes one hour, two hours, or the full three hours of the ceremony, the opportunity remains.
When the ceremony concludes, if these beings are finally willing to let go of their grievances and chant the name of Namo Amituofo, they can enter the light and reach the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. It is never too late to turn toward the light.
The Constant Presence of the Buddha
At Hsiang Kuang: A Sacred Sanctuary, Namo Amituofo truly abides. The Buddha-light shines upon everyone 24/7, without interruption. If you, or the karmic creditors who accompany you, are willing to let go of your attachments, you are effectively saving yourselves. When you are saved, all the beings connected to you are saved alongside you. This is the profound interconnectedness of our practice.
The Universal Power of Purification
During our group prostrations, many beings from the Western Land of Nature at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre join us in this practice. As we chant the Buddha-name and perform our prostrations, we are collectively engaged in the work of dissolving and reducing our transgressions. This purification is universal:
- Spiritual beings who join us in prostrations can also dissolve their karma and accumulate merit.
- The benefit of this practice does not differ based on whether one possesses a physical body or is a spirit.
- As we purify ourselves through prostrations, our souls begin to radiate with light.
This principle holds true for both the physical body and the spirit. By dedicating ourselves to this practice, we ensure that our path is guided by the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way, leading us clearly and unobstructed toward .
