Recorded by Namo Amituofo’s disciple, Venerable HaiZe, during the noon offering on 11 February 2024. Namo Amituofo provides these profound insights into the nature of the heart.

The Sincerity of the Heart-Word

The term Heart-Word refers to the speech that arises directly from the depths of the heart. It is sincere, authentic, and devoid of any falsehood. Because it comes from one who has achieved , it is completely free from the slightest trace of impurity or turbidity. This is the language of the true self, speaking without the filters of ego or desire.

What is impurity? It is something that enters from the outside. Once a stain has attached itself to the heart, it must be removed before the heart can return to its original state of purity. Turbidity is like a layer of dust that covers the heart, preventing it from maintaining its original, pristine form.

The Unmoved Mind

When the heart is free from both impurity and turbidity, it becomes clear, bright, and peaceful. It is like a calm lake without waves or ripples. This state of being is your original face. Your spirit is transparent and capable of infinite transformations, manifesting according to your deepest intentions. This heart is flawless and exists only for the sake of all beings. In its true state, it is empty—it contains nothing. It is not bound by the past, the present, or the future. It simply exists in the present moment, moving forward with directness and clarity. This is the true meaning of the Tathagata.

No matter how the external world changes, this heart remains unmoved. This is the original meditative concentration. Whether things come or go, the true heart remains unmoved. When the heart gives rise to the myriad phenomena of the , it understands both the principles and the facts, following the beings, the conditions, and the environment. By manifesting the Dharma of the heart, one can resolve all obstacles and transmit the Heart-Word to break through confusion.

The Light of -Nature

Namo Amituofo’s Heart-Word is available to you now, helping all who have karmic affinity to return to the Fragrant Light. By passing the sacred name of Namo Amituofo from mouth to ear, you can help those without affinity to develop it. Make your vows, chant Namo Amituofo, and enter the of Ultimate Bliss. The Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss awaits your return.

Your heart is inherently pure and luminous. When the light of your heart and the light of the Buddha merge, they illuminate the darkness. This is the light that has always belonged to your true self. Although this light has been obscured by the cycle of rebirth and the dust of the world, it has never been damaged. It is waiting for the moment you open your heart to Awakening. The Buddha-light is natural and inherent; every being possesses it. Despite passing through countless eons of time, your self-nature remains perfect and untouched. It is only because of the dust of reincarnation that this light is covered, leading us into the darkness of confusion. We wait for the moment our wisdom opens, allowing us to see our true nature and return to our original home.

The heart is infinite and boundless. When you realise that there is truly no heart to grasp, you find your true self. You realise that Namo Amituofo has always been within your heart. When the Buddha and your heart are in sync, you see your true nature.
