This is a record of an interview with Venerable Yongning, who currently resides in the of Ultimate Bliss. This account explores the profound spiritual implications of curiosity and its detrimental impact on the human body and spirit. The interview was conducted and recorded by the chief writer, Shi Fajing, on April 25, 2023.

Venerable Yongning speaks:

"Namo Amituofo. What is the true nature of a curious heart? It is a restless desire to know, to try, and to experience. It is a persistent sensation that drives one to seek out various methods to test things for oneself. Before one has actually satisfied this urge, the heart feels agitated, as if an internal force is constantly whispering, 'Go on, try it!' I believe every human being has experienced this restless state of mind.

From a worldly perspective, this human curiosity is often lauded as a virtue that allows one to broaden their horizons. Because of curiosity, one may acquire more knowledge than others. In terms of worldly capabilities, a strong sense of curiosity from a young age might foster greater creativity, allowing one to conceive ideas that others cannot and to innovate in ways that stand out from the crowd.

The Worldly Perspective vs. The Spiritual Reality

However, when viewed from the perspective of the human body's internal space, we see that those with intense curiosity possess vast, complex, and cluttered spaces within them.

Curiosity acts as a key that opens these internal spaces. Because of this curiosity, one inadvertently attracts a multitude of sentient beings into . This makes the internal space, particularly the head, incredibly complex—filled with countless, immeasurable spaces that should not be there.

The Gateway for Spiritual Attachment

Why does this phenomenon occur? Whenever the urge of curiosity arises, there is inevitably a past Causal Condition behind it. It is this past connection that triggers curiosity toward a specific event, image, or skill. When curiosity is activated, the past space is opened, and simultaneously, the sentient beings residing within that space are awakened.

In the moment of curiosity, when you attempt to view an image, perform an action, or absorb new knowledge, you are inviting these things into your body. As these images, words, and information enter, many sentient beings residing in those spaces enter along with them. This process is incredibly rapid, and the number of spirits involved is vast.

The Mechanism of Attachment

Once you have absorbed this new knowledge or mastered a new skill, your head naturally becomes hypersensitive to these matters. Perhaps later, when you see something similar on an advertisement or a screen, your brain automatically links it to the knowledge you have stored. This rapid process of searching and retrieving information triggers thought. Once thought arises, it draws in other corresponding sentient beings into the head and other parts of the body.

What I am describing is the state of a person who is curious about everything. Their internal space is inevitably extremely complex. Every piece of new knowledge absorbed through curiosity, every image or scene witnessed, carries with it the presence of sentient beings. These spirits follow the thoughts in the brain and the of curiosity, rapidly entering the body. Even the spaces within the body that were connected to the past are awakened in large numbers. All of this simultaneously affects the physical body, leaving it under the influence of a multitude of sentient beings.

The Paradox of Knowledge

In the world, those who possess much knowledge are praised as 'learned and well-informed,' while those who know little are disparaged as 'ignorant and ill-informed.' Yet, within the internal space of the body, the reality is the exact opposite. Those who know much have internal spaces that are densely packed with spiritual attachments. Those who know little remain pure and bright, suffering far less interference from internal and external spirits.

The human body is filled with mysteries. If you examine it closely, you will discover that everything we are obsessed with in this world is not actually needed by the body; in fact, it is often harmful to both the body and the spirit. Learning to let go is the true path to learning purification.

Namo Amituofo."
