The Journey of Guan Youxing: From Hell to the Western Dharma-Nature Land

An Interview with Lay Practitioner Guan Youxing

Recorded at Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre

My name is Guan Youxing, and I once lived in Hong Kong. Several years ago, I passed away suddenly due to an unexpected heart attack. Following my death, I fell into the hells to endure immense suffering. During my time in the human world, I had been deeply involved in the affairs of a local Daoist temple. I held a significant position there and contributed my own wealth, believing that I was performing virtuous deeds. However, I was unaware that the person in charge was secretly engaging in actions that violated their conscience. Because I failed to discern the truth and remained blind to these wrongdoings, I had to bear the karmic consequences after my death and suffer in the hells to repay my debts.

The Heavy Burden of Unseen

It was only when my wife encountered Practitioner Su that I was finally rescued from the depths of that suffering. I now reside in the at Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre. This place serves as a vital station before one reaches the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. Here, I listen to the teachings of the , deepen my understanding of the Western Pure Land, and make the sincere vow to be reborn there. During the Dharma assemblies or through the process of , I can be guided to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. Such a magnificent opportunity is truly difficult to encounter in millions of years. This is what true deliverance is meant to be. If one does not find the right path, the living may spend money on ceremonies, but the deceased will not receive any real benefit. That is a tragedy that is not worth the cost.

A Sanctuary for the Soul

Throughout my life, I was always searching for a genuine way to save the world and help others. Unfortunately, I searched in the wrong direction, which led to the loss of my precious life. I never imagined that after death, I would encounter the followers of the Pure Land school, Practitioner Su, and the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. I cherish this karmic affinity deeply. Now, my two children are also following the path of purification and practice. I hope they can find their true nature, realise the value of their lives, and manifest their innate potential to save not only themselves but also all beings connected to them by karmic affinity, guiding them to be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. Otherwise, in this human world, we arrive empty-handed and leave empty-handed, unable to take anything with us except for the heavy burden of our karmic fruits. That is a truly terrifying prospect.

Preparing for the Ultimate Migration

Once the Amituofo Village at Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre is completed, it will certainly be able to help many helpless people who do not know where to turn. They will be able to come and reside there, and their days will no longer be spent in vain, passing one by one without purpose. Instead, they will have a clear direction, preparing themselves for the ultimate migration to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. I truly hope that my mother, my wife, my family members, and all those with the necessary can become members of the Amituofo Village. In this way, their rebirth in the Western Pure Land will be assured, and their lives will not be spent in vain.

The Fragility of the Three Hun and Seven Po

In September 2018, an interview was conducted with Lay Practitioner Guan Youxing regarding the nature of the three hun souls and seven po souls.

Venerable HaiZe: May I ask you, Lay Practitioner Guan, during your time in the human world, were there moments when you felt physically unwell, experienced pain, or suffered from a lack of mental focus, perhaps feeling drowsy or as if you were entering another space?

Lay Practitioner Guan Youxing: In truth, my body often experienced aches, pains, and bouts of . Because of my lifestyle, I had contact with various spirits, and I mistakenly believed that these sensations were caused by those interactions. The most significant incident occurred when I was forty-five years old. In a dream, I saw my wife and two children crossing a river when they were suddenly swept away by a flood. I rushed to save them, but in the process, I was also swept away by the torrent. I woke up in a state of shock, covered in cold sweat. From that moment on, I often felt an uncontrollable chill throughout my body and a sense of deep unease in my heart. While others might not have noticed, I could feel it clearly. It turns out that at that moment, one of my hun souls and one of my po souls had entered the dream and were swept away by the flood. Even though I was still living my life with my remaining three hun souls and seven po souls, my body began to manifest these changes.
