This is a record of an interview with the great-grandfather of Wang Quan, who sought at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. He now resides in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. Miaoyin speaks:
"Namo Amituofo. Today, my heart has finally truly opened. By 'opened,' I mean that I have finally transitioned from the space of the Western -Nature Land to the space of the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. These two Buddha-lands are truly wondrous; they seem similar, yet they possess distinct differences. I can now deeply feel the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss—it is a truly dignified and magnificent Buddha-land. The hearts of the beings here are genuinely pure and filled with Goodness. There is no longer the confusion of the past, nor the need for endless searching. My heart has truly settled, and I simply chant 'Namo Amituofo' to the end. My current state of mind is filled with immense gratitude. I am deeply thankful to Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su for establishing such beautiful realms—the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss and the Western Dharma-Nature Land—providing so many beings from the spirit realms with a place of refuge and a true destination for our lives."
The Difference Between Two Pure Lands
"I came from the Western Dharma-Nature Land, which is truly a fascinating world. Beings from all walks of life are there. Regardless of which realm they came from, everyone gathers on the Western Dharma-Nature Land. Some who have just arrived may appear uneasy or sorrowful, but after staying for a while, everyone becomes filled with Dharma . Therefore, the Western Dharma-Nature Land is truly a colourful and all-encompassing world. In contrast, in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss, one can see that everyone's heart is already extremely stable. Everyone is single-mindedly chanting the Buddha's name, without any messy thoughts. It is an incredibly peaceful and cool, refreshing world."
A Forgotten Name and a Lifetime of Suffering
"Let me tell you my story. I am the great-grandfather of Wang Quan. From beginning to end, I cannot even recall what my name was when I lived in the human world; that is truly a matter from far too long ago. I never expected that even my descendants would have forgotten my name, but perhaps that is not a bad thing. When people live in the world, they come empty-handed and leave empty-handed. Whether one has a name or not, it is merely an illusion—a mere label. For all the years I suffered in the hells, I was truly in such agony that I could not think of anything, nor could I manage anything. I only knew that I was constantly suffering retribution after retribution, pain after pain. Those days were so unbearable that, even now, I have forgotten what kind of negative I created to end up in the hells. However, there is a faint shadow in my heart—a memory of the fire that burned within me when I was in the human world, that intense anger and dissatisfaction. But what exactly happened? What did I do wrong? It seems that the suffering of the hells has ground away my memories. So, do not be curious, and I am no longer curious about what I did in the past."
The Path to Ultimate Liberation
"Since coming to the Western Dharma-Nature Land, my heart has opened significantly. I have come to realise that everything is an illusion, everything is impermanence, and the human world has always been this way. Therefore, I cherished every single minute and second I spent in the Western Dharma-Nature Land. However, I delayed coming to the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss for a while; I was truly hesitant. When I thought about having to accept this interview upon arriving in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss, I muttered to myself, 'Let me wait a little longer, let me wait a little longer.' After all, I was already capable of rebirth in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss, so I was not in a rush to arrive and immediately have to undergo an interview.
But once my heart truly opened, I became willing to speak about the past. Although I do not remember much, I am willing to face the bitter days I spent suffering retribution in the hells, and I am finally willing to face the fact that my past seems to have vanished. If you ask me, since arriving in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss, everything has become crystal clear. This is what I have come to know within just two hours of arriving here, at the time of this interview. These scenes appearing before my eyes are truly miraculous, as if my hundreds, thousands, and tens of thousands of lifetimes are all reflected before me. Yet, I do not wish to investigate these many lives in detail. Since receiving true purification, I have decided to truly let go of the past. Even if I knew more, it would only bring about afflictions. It is far better to remain cool and at ease, chanting the Buddha's name to the end, and simply following Namo Amituofo on the path to Buddhahood!"
A Message of Gratitude to My Descendants
"Therefore, when I made the vow to follow the Buddha and to be reborn in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss, I was instantly guided by Practitioner Su to this place during the most recent Dharma assembly—less than two hours ago. My heart at that moment was truly filled with boundless joy! I never imagined that someone like me, who had experienced so many vicissitudes, could undergo such a great transformation and possess such a broad heart to let go of everything related to myself. Because here, you no longer have much of a 'self.' Although I have not yet realised my true nature and attained Buddhahood—as I have not yet completely let go of the 'self'—I have already reduced the attachment to my own to almost nothing.
Looking back at the people in the human world now, I see that they are truly suffering too much. They have so many feelings and thoughts swirling within them; is that not suffering? After I was purified in the Western Dharma-Nature Land, I gradually let go of these things. My whole being became light and airy, unburdened by anything, and that is truly a state of ease and happiness! Now, in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss, I believe I will continue to live this way. I truly do not have many impressions of the past anymore.
Speaking of this, my heart is very peaceful. The Western Land of Ultimate Bliss is a world for attaining Buddhahood, and I yearn for it deeply. To my family—my family from my previous life—I sincerely thank you. I am grateful that you still remembered to perform Chao Du for this old man. Even though my living name was no longer on the list for deliverance, you still held this filial heart, which truly moves me! I am deeply touched and grateful. I hope that you, too, can have this good fortune like me and arrive in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss soon. That is truly a place where one can attain Buddhahood in one lifetime, without having to face days of affliction ever again. This disciple sincerely thanks Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su. I am grateful for everything! Namo Amituofo."
