The Lessons of Venerable Kaixin: A Reflection on Practice and Temptation
An Interview with the Spirit of Venerable Kaixin
Recorded by Venerable HaiZe at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre
This interview was recorded on September 4, 2018, by Venerable HaiZe at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre. The subject is Venerable Kaixin, a monastic who, after experiencing the trials of karmic debt and the consequences of stray thoughts, sought and received deliverance from Practitioner Su. Venerable Kaixin now resides in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss and shares his testimony to warn and guide fellow practitioners.
Venerable Kaixin speaks:
Venerable HaiZe: "Ten recitations of Namo Amituofo. I respectfully invite Venerable Kaixin, who now resides in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss, to accept this interview."
Venerable Kaixin: "Namo Amituofo. Kaixin has arrived."
Venerable HaiZe: "Shall we conduct this in a question-and-answer format? Please speak, and I will transcribe your words."
Venerable Kaixin: "Very well. I shall speak, and you shall write. Back when I was a monastic, you were my senior. I wonder, how much of your cultivation attainment remains now?"
Venerable HaiZe: "That is a matter of past lives. I possess no significant attainment in this lifetime."
Venerable Kaixin: "And yet you are able to write so many words without any attainment?"
Venerable HaiZe: "Let us begin."
The Reality of Spiritual Sight
Venerable Kaixin: "You have seen my appearance—just an ordinary, elderly person. In truth, my ability to see and hear across dimensions was something I cultivated in past lives, which made it easier to develop in this lifetime. I can perceive realms that others cannot; I see ghosts and spirits clearly. One cannot deceive me. One must have true attainment to avoid being led around by the nose by spirits. Practitioner Su’s attainment, however, is far more vast than mine. When I look from the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss, my eyes widen in amazement! It is truly astonishing. Her can perform deliverance, somersaulting and charging forward. To achieve such a state while still in the human world is no simple feat! It is no wonder she is called Practitioner Su!"
Venerable HaiZe: "Indeed. For those who wish to learn more about Practitioner Su’s Body deliverance, information is available on our website for your perusal."
The Hidden Dangers of the Mind
Venerable HaiZe: "Venerable Kaixin, some have seen images of you from your later years, appearing to drool and wearing a bib. Was this because your spirit or your three hun souls and seven po souls had been captured?"
Venerable Kaixin: "I am truly embarrassed. That was when I was around sixty-five years old. For a period, I was struck by malevolent forces. I want to show everyone that the many people today who suffer from strokes are often being targeted by spirits. These spirits are here to collect on karmic debts. If the debt is not settled, or if it is only partially repaid, they will not leave. When I was alive, at most I could lecture on the Dharma, helping them understand the truth so they might retreat and stop demanding repayment. I would invite them to listen to the sutras and cultivate their hearts, which makes it easier to escape suffering, though that is still within the cycle of samsara. But Practitioner Su possesses a Dharma Body—a manifestation—that can perform deliverance for beings, leading them directly to the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. This is an incredibly difficult task. Those who encounter her must have faith, or they will lose a great benefit. In the current Buddha’s gate, there are no other practitioners with such genuine power of deliverance. So, when people call you Practitioner Su, there is a reason for it."
The Medicine of the Pure Land
Venerable Kaixin: "The Buddha’s teachings are the teachings of the heart. One must regulate the mind. Originally, this heart is pure, shining, and bright. It has been blackened by the filth of samsara. We must wash it clean, layer by layer. Using the Buddha-water is the best method; it is the only way to wash away the deep-seated grime at the very bottom. Our Pure Land practice of reciting Namo Amituofo is the most effective medicine. When combined with the Eight Meritorious Waters of the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, those with good fortune who consume this medicine will be saved. Those with minor illnesses will recover quickly, and those with severe illnesses must take it, or there is no other hope."
A Lesson in Temptation
Venerable Kaixin: "Regarding that time you mentioned, my spirit was busy coordinating and healing others, and I inadvertently had a dream. I dreamt I was in dialogue with beings, trying to mediate, and in that moment, one of my souls and one of my po were captured and trapped. When I woke up, my speech was less clear, and my mouth often hung open, though my mind remained sharp. From that point on, I taught less frequently, though my eyes and ears were not yet blocked. I had simply changed. Alas! To be captured only in my old age. Are you going to ask me why I was captured?"
Venerable HaiZe: "(Nods head.)"
Venerable Kaixin: "It is because I reflected on my life as a monastic. I had helped some devotees resolve their karmic grievances and helped them understand the Dharma and their own hearts. But suddenly, a thought of a woman arose. Alas! That was truly wrong. This is a major precept; even having the thought is forbidden. Because of that, the beings were able to seize me! It is shocking that a monastic who usually lectures on the Dharma and helps others resolve their grievances could have such inappropriate thoughts. Therefore, not only will the beings you have helped not let you go, but your own will certainly not let you go either. They appeared in my dream, and as soon as I entered, my soul was captured, which led to the drooling appearance that followed. I am truly ashamed! This is also the reason I fell into the hells after I passed away. I am so grateful to Practitioner Su for saving me from the hells and sending me to the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. Thank you!"
A Call to
Venerable Kaixin: "With attainment like yours, you must pass it on to save others—both the living and the dead can be saved! It is no small thing that you have appeared in this world; we all know you are a manifestation of Namo Amituofo, sent here to save the world. People of this world, wake up! Kaixin knows how to judge character; everyone must follow closely to learn true attainment. If you do not follow closely, if you let go and leave, who knows how many lifetimes it will be before you encounter such a chance again? You will suffer greatly and find no escape."
Venerable Kaixin: "The Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre is building the Amituofo Village; everyone must seize this opportunity. This is a wonderful thing. You have food, you have shelter, and you can go to the Western Land without worrying about falling back into the cycle of rebirth. Practitioner Su is highly skilled at deliverance and can guide those who live here to the Western Land. This place is very close to the West; those who come here will know. I, Kaixin, bless you all from here, that you may soon escape suffering. Live here, become a cool, free, and pure Westerner, and prepare for your rebirth in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. Namo Amituofo."
