The Lighthouse of the True Path

Buddhas or Bodhisattvas and true spiritual friends are like lighthouses or bright lamps in the darkness of our world. They provide the essential guidance for our journey through life, pointing us toward the correct direction. If you follow their guidance, you will be able to continue sailing along the righteous path. You will not lose your way, and you will eventually arrive safely at your destination on time. However, if you choose not to follow these directions, you may become lost in the darkness of confusion. Consequently, you will be unable to reach your destination as planned.

Clearing the Dust of Ages

Consider the metaphor of a lamp being lit in a dark room. The moment the light shines, the dust of a thousand years is revealed. Once that dust is removed, the room that has been dark for a millennium finally becomes clean and bright. This is the power of the light of wisdom. It reveals the impurities we have carried for lifetimes, allowing us to cleanse our hearts and minds.

Navigating Through the Fog

Think of the experience of driving through thick, heavy fog. When you switch on your fog lights, you can finally see the road ahead and the vehicles approaching from the other side. This light ensures that both parties can travel safely. Similarly, the teachings of the Buddha act as our fog lights, allowing us to see clearly even when the conditions of life are obscured by ignorance and attachment.

The Precious Lamp of the Heart

The lamp of the heart is truly precious. In your daily interactions with others, you should use this light to help them grow. When you interact with people, you should strive to make them feel as if they are bathing in a gentle spring breeze. By offering compassionate guidance, you help them learn to find in their practice. We must cultivate this inner light so that we may:

  • Remain steadfast on the righteous path
  • Provide clarity to those who are lost
  • Create a harmonious environment for all beings
  • Find true happiness in our daily practice
