The Vessel of and the Path to
Namo Amituofo teaches that the possession of a physical body is the very condition that allows our karma to manifest. Because we have this body, our are granted the opportunity to seek balance, to express their grievances, and to demand restitution for past harms. This physical existence is the root of the suffering we experience through the cycle of birth, aging, sickness, death, which deeply affects our body, heart, and spirit.
However, it is precisely because we possess this body that we have the unique opportunity to engage in True Cultivation. We must use this temporary vessel as a tool for practice, to rediscover our true self, to save ourselves, and to guide all beings toward rebirth in the .
The Necessity of Total Transformation
For those with sharp faculties and deep good roots, it is essential to understand that our personality is not merely a collection of current traits. It is the result of habits built up over accumulated lifetimes. If you wish to change personality traits within this limited lifespan, you cannot simply make minor adjustments. You must be willing to:
- Completely let go of your old personality traits.
- Transform your deep-seated habits entirely.
- Resolve conflicts with your karmic creditors through sincere .
- Transform your karma through diligent practice to finally see their true nature.
By doing so, you will gain autonomy over your life and no longer be subject to the karmic suffering that comes with having a physical body.
The Process of Purification
If you only change a portion of your personality, the traits you have left behind will continue to attract karmic creditors and manifest as new obstacles. Your body will continue to suffer. Your practice will be tested precisely through these manifestations of karma. When you encounter these challenges, you must:
- Recognise your shortcomings and areas of negligence.
- Change your ways, and then change them again.
- Commit to purifying , heart, and spirit, and then purification, and then more purification.
If you can recognise your faults and truly change, the problems caused by your manifesting karma will be resolved. You will be able to continue your journey forward, and the spiritual quality will be significantly elevated.
The Compassionate Intervention of Awakened Beings
Throughout this difficult process, Buddha or , the patriarchs and venerable masters, and true spiritual friend offer their support. They use their , Wisdom (Prajna), virtue, and skillful means to guide you. They even utilise the innate abilities of the : eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind of an awakened being. With these supernatural powers, they can perceive the presence of karmic creditors, spiritual attachment, or demon crowds, and address these problems directly.
By using their ability of reading minds and knowing past lives, they can discern the laws of karma and cause and effect between the practitioner and their creditors. They guide the creditors to repenting and even use their to alleviate the suffering of these beings, fulfilling their requests. Whether it is healing the pain of families being torn apart from their families or restoring the reputation of those who were wrongly accused, these actions are profound. For those who have realised their true nature and attained the Body, this is how they use wisdom to save beings. They ensure that karmic creditors receive compensation, are willing to let go of their desire for revenge, and can accept the resolution and Chao Du with a peaceful heart.
This method of resolution is a perfect union of compassion and wisdom. It is the practical application of using the power of an awakened being to save and rescue all beings. This is one of the primary methods of saving beings currently practised at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre.
