Namo Amituofo teaches:
The laws of and cause and effect are among the fundamental truths of the . When you look at your current situation, the challenges you face, and the rewards you receive, you must understand that these are not random occurrences. They are the direct results of your own past actions—both good and bad. The suffering and happiness you experience in this present moment are not caused by others; they are caused by yourself.
It is easy to look outward and blame the world for our difficulties. However, the truth is that every experience is a manifestation of the seeds we have sown in the past. If you find yourself in a state of hardship, it is because of the causes you created previously. If you find yourself in a state of , it is also because of the goodness you cultivated. You are the architect of your own reality. Because the laws of karma and cause and effect are absolute, you must accept that your current environment is a reflection of your past intentions, the obstacles you encounter are opportunities to resolve past debts, and the happiness you enjoy is the fruit of your previous kindness. Everything you experience is a result of your own choices, not the actions of others.
Throughout the six realms of rebirth, all beings spend countless lifetimes drifting through the cycle of birth, aging, sickness, death. Whether one remains trapped in this cycle or manages to transcend it by entering the Four Sacred Realms, the outcome is determined entirely by the state of one's heart and actions while alive. When this physical body is discarded, the spirit follows the path dictated by the karma accumulated during one's life. This journey is a solitary one. You are born alone, you die alone, and you travel through the realms alone. It is not others who determine your destination; it is yourself.
The opportunity to hear the Buddha’s teachings and to enter the Pure Land Dharma Gate is a profound blessing. This is the fruit of the good causes you planted in previous lives, manifesting now as a precious Dharma affinity. To achieve the ultimate goal of rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, you must arouse the mind and single-mindedly recite Namo Amituofo. Whether you successfully attain Buddhahood and enter the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss depends entirely on your own dedication. It is not others who can do this for you; it is yourself.
Even while you reside in the human world, the people you encounter—your parents, your family, your friends, and your adversaries—are all part of a complex web of relationships. These interactions are governed by the need to repay a kindness or settle past grievances. These individuals are often your , and your relationships with them are defined by the karma you share. You must realise that these dynamics are not external burdens imposed upon you by chance. They are the result of your own past actions. It is not others who create these situations; it is yourself.
Given these truths, how can you change your fate? The only way is through diligent practice. By relying on the Pure Land Dharma Gate, combining your own efforts in chanting Namo Amituofo with the power of the Buddha's , you can transform your karma. You must be fiercely diligent in your practice: diligently practise the , Concentration and Wisdom, and strive to perfect the Six Perfections in your daily life. Through this path, you have the opportunity to break free from the control of your karma and your karmic creditors. This is the only way to achieve and realise one's true nature and attain Buddhahood. The power to change is within you.
