The Nature of Our Wandering: A Discourse on Samsara
Teachings from Namo Amituofo
Hong Kong Winter Dharma Assembly, 13 October 2019

The Endless Cycle of Wandering
During the third day of the Hong Kong Winter Assembly for Disaster Relief and Fulfillment of Wishes, Namo Amituofo offered profound teachings during the noon offering. We must reflect deeply upon our existence within the cycle of rebirth. How should one spend their life while wandering in this world? What is the true value that remains in your life? What is the ultimate meaning behind all that you have sought throughout your existence?
Having wandered through the cycle of rebirth for countless lifetimes, does your heart, my child, still remain trapped in this cycle? Can you recall those moments of purity and simplicity from the past, before you were clouded by the dust of the world? My child, what is the purpose of this cycle of rebirth?
The Call to Awaken from Suffering
The heart that wanders in the cycle of rebirth must come to a stop. Having endured so much pain and sorrow throughout your many lives, do you not wish to let go of this entire process of suffering? Do not continue to torment yourself within this cycle. It is a path that leads only to further exhaustion and confusion. You must recognise that the cycle of rebirth is a heavy burden that you have carried for far too long. It is time to cease this wandering and find the peace that is your birthright.
Returning to the Luminous True Self-Nature
You must seek to rediscover your true self-nature. Look clearly at yourself within the cycle of rebirth and observe the patterns of your own mind. What does true liberation look like? It is the state where the mind is no longer swayed by the external world. You must be clear-sighted and awake. To achieve this, you must reflect on the impermanence of all worldly phenomena, release the attachments that bind you to the cycle of rebirth, and diligently practise the teachings to purify your body, mind, and spirit. It is time to be truly awake. Namo Amituofo.
