Where Do Our Faults Reside?
Namo Amituofo teaches us that our faults are not merely external actions; they reside deep within our heart, our body, and our spirit. When we examine the nature of these faults, we find that they are often rooted in the deep-seated patterns of our own minds. A fault that manifests in the heart is often a sign that we have become contaminated by the weight of our and the rigid, deeply ingrained thoughts we carry from the past. This contamination occurs because we cling to a sense of self—a private, selfish heart that is driven by personal needs, desires, and demands. This attachment to is the primary source of our suffering.
The Trap of the Self
When you hold onto this sense of self, you are essentially allowing your life to be governed by the laws of karma and cause and effect. This self is not a permanent entity; it is a complex construct built from the accumulation of your past actions and reactions. Within this construct, your personal ego, selfishness, and the habits you have cultivated over accumulated lifetimes are all mixed together. This is the root cause of why we continue to create negative karma. As long as you identify with this limited self, you will find it difficult to break free from the cycle of rebirth.
The Illusions of the Physical World
Faults that manifest in are often tied to the temptations of the world. We are frequently distracted by the and the , which include:
- Greed for material wealth and possessions
- Attachment to sensory pleasures
- The pursuit of fame and status
- The craving for food and comfort
- The desire for excessive sleep and ease
These things are all illusory. They provide only temporary satisfaction and ultimately lead us away from the Truth. If you wish to make progress in your practice, you must learn to recognise these illusions for what they are. By choosing to change your ways and let go of these selfish attachments, you will find that your practice begins to deepen and flourish.
Reclaiming the True Self
When faults manifest in the spirit, they often appear as a scattered mind, an inability to focus, or a sense of being lost. In such states, your true self is unable to take charge. Instead, your spirit becomes vulnerable to the influence of who reside within you, seeking to settle old grievances. When these spirits take control, it becomes incredibly easy to create negative karma and commit further faults. To reclaim your spirit, you must engage in the process of repentance and purification.
The Path to
Changing your ways is essentially a process of letting go of the old. It involves removing the habits and ego-driven tendencies that you have carried through accumulated lifetimes. You must actively work to adjust or discard your past incorrect views, , and behaviours. By doing so, you ensure that your Body, Speech, and Mind are in complete harmony with the Universal Principles, Truth, and the Right Path. This alignment protects you from the interference of negative karma and the demands of karmic creditors, allowing your practice to continue without interruption. Changing your ways and letting go of the self is a shared goal for all humanity. As you walk this path, you will naturally elevate the quality of your spirit. This is an essential process for anyone who wishes to become an awakened being, and it will provide you with immense support on your journey toward the of Ultimate Bliss. Namo Amituofo.
