Teachings from Namo Amituofo, recorded and transcribed by Namo Amituofo’s disciple, Venerable HaiZe.

The physical body that you inhabit is a product of the six realms of rebirth. It is constructed from a complex web of past Causal Conditions, woven together through countless lifetimes of experience. Because this body arises due to these conditions and will eventually disperse when those conditions cease, it is fundamentally a state of impermanence.

The Illusion of

Many of the personality traits and habits that you carry within this cycle of rebirth are not truly yours. They are not part of your original nature. In your true self, there is no such thing as a fixed personality or ingrained habit. These are merely temporary imprints left by the experiences of the past.

Consider the composition of your body. It is formed by the four great elements: earth, water, fire, and wind. In a deeper sense, one might say that this body is built and sustained by the presence of various sentient beings. Every being residing within your body shares a profound connection with your true self. Once this physical vessel is constructed, it provides a dwelling place for these countless spirits who are linked to your own karmic history.

The Sentient Universe Within

Every single cell in your body is a living, sentient existence. Within the vast, microscopic landscape of your physical form, there are countless spirits residing. This is the reality of our existence, yet we often remain unaware of the life teeming within us.

If you are a practitioner who chants Buddha's name, you must learn to let go of the self. When you engage in diligent practice with a sincere heart, you open yourself to the magnificent power of Namo Amituofo. Through the grace of His and His infinite power, the countless sentient beings residing within your body can also receive His .

The Magnificent Practice of Chanting

When these beings within you are touched by the light of Namo Amituofo, they too can attain the . As their meditative concentration deepens, they may eventually attain true wisdom. This is the magnificent, transformative power of your practice:

  • Purification: By letting go of your ego, you allow the light of the Buddha to cleanse both your own spirit and the spirits of those residing within you.
  • Collective Liberation: Your diligent practice becomes a vehicle for the liberation of all the beings connected to your karmic path.
  • Attainment: Through this process, you move closer to the state of deep peace and wisdom, making the attainment of true insight possible.

However, you must be aware of a critical truth: if you fail to let go of the self, even if you chant the name of the Buddha, it will be difficult to achieve the deep meditative concentration required for the Buddha-Recitation Samadhi. In such a state, true wisdom remains a distant goal. This is something every practitioner must understand clearly.

The Call to Universal Compassion

To truly learn from the Buddha, you must forget the self. You must cultivate the four immeasurable minds: Compassion, , and Selfless Giving. When you let go of the self, you realise that there is no I to protect or promote. There is only the presence of all beings.

By forgetting the self and following the path of the Buddha, you unlock the ultimate potential of this body—a technology more advanced than any human invention. You become a vessel for the light of Namo Amituofo, dedicated to the noble work of saving countless suffering beings. Let your practice be a beacon of hope for all who are lost in the cycle of rebirth.
