The Essence of True Focus

Focus is a fundamental act of self-responsibility and a reflection of one's attitude toward the path of practice. When you recognise that a task is necessary for your spiritual growth, you must commit to performing it with excellence. Whether you are driven by the urgency of time, the necessity of completing a task, or a desire for self-discipline, focus is the key to ensuring that no moment is wasted.

Those who truly know how to cherish their time use their power of focus to complete their work with efficiency and grace. Most importantly, one must not allow the mind to become scattered. By gathering your spirit and maintaining a state of unwavering attention, you can achieve success in your practice.

A Call to the Students of Hsiang Kuang

To the students of Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre, please understand that time is fleeting. The days pass one by one, and the opportunity for practice is precious. During this period of quiet retreat, I hope that you can grasp every minute and every second to focus entirely on your diligent practice. You must let go of all selfish thoughts and idle delusions, allowing your time to reach its greatest potential for spiritual merit.

The Vigilance of the Mind

You must constantly examine your own thoughts and behaviours. Ask yourself: are there any inappropriate thoughts arising? Is there any interference in my practice? Am I inadvertently affecting others in a negative way?

Whenever the "self," personal ego, and selfishness begin to manifest, you must stop them immediately. Do not allow these negative habits to expand, for once they take root, you will lose the ability to master your own mind. When you lose this mastery, you cannot maintain focus. You will find yourself replaced by states of being drowsy or distracted, and it will become impossible to achieve the results of true focus and diligent practice.

The Vow to Save All Beings

To save yourself and to relieve the suffering of all beings, you must exert your greatest strength. Your success depends on the power of your vow and your progress toward becoming an awakened being. The path of saving the world and delivering sentient beings is a collective journey. We must follow the guidance of Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su as we move forward together.

Namo Amituofo.
