The Power of Self-Confidence: A Message from the Late President Zhao Puchu
The Forty-first Letter of the Late President Zhao Puchu
Recorded on September 14, 2017
It is truly inconceivable that I, who no longer possess a physical body, am still able to speak before the public. Whether or not others believe this is not the primary concern. What remains constant is my unwavering conviction: I always do what I believe to be right. As long as an action is beneficial to society and to the nation, I will dedicate my heart and soul to it, regardless of the obstacles or criticisms I may face. I have always moved forward, standing firm against the tides of opposition, and in many instances, this persistence has led to success.
The Unwavering Path of Righteousness
Throughout my life, I have encountered countless events, many of which were significant moments in our nation's history. While the average civilian may not have experienced these events firsthand, I was fortunate enough to participate in them, and through this, I learned a great deal. Human beings possess a very distinct habit: we are not easily inclined to accept new things or new ideas. We hesitate unless we have absolute certainty, or unless those around us provide us with full confidence. The root of this hesitation lies in our deep-seated distrust and fear of the unknown.
We fear being hurt, we fear suffering a loss, and we fear change. These are the common habits of humanity. Naturally, we construct a protective barrier around ourselves. Once something touches this barrier, our defensive mechanisms are triggered. We use various methods to protect ourselves, all to avoid being harmed. This is a natural instinct of humanity, and it is also the selfishness that we are born with.
The Protective Barriers of the Human Heart
I understand that since I have become a spirit, most people will not believe the words I speak. After all, such a miraculous event has never occurred in their lives, so they prefer to choose disbelief. Furthermore, coupled with the inherent selfishness of human beings, if there is no immediate, tangible benefit, it is difficult to motivate people to make any significant change. Every word I speak is intended for one purpose: to help everyone be reborn in the of Ultimate Bliss. Yet, this incentive is often insufficient to move people's hearts. Why is this so? Because the benefits of the present moment seem to outweigh everything else. To the masses, the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss feels like a place at the ends of the earth.
Are the beings of the -ending Age truly so lacking in ? My fellow practitioners, if those who study Buddhism do not believe in the laws of and cause and effect, can they still be called students of the Buddha? If you truly believe in the laws of karma and cause and effect, do you know where you will be in your next life? Can you truly be certain that you have not committed any evil? A single evil thought is enough to cause you to suffer the consequences, let alone the fact that we have all committed both good and evil deeds. We do not know how much karma we have accumulated in our past and present lives, and all of this must be repaid. If there is a place that allows us to carry our karma and still be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, that is a place worth travelling to without rest, even if we must rush to get there.
The Urgent Call to the Western Pure Land
Namo Amituofo is right before your eyes. Do you still wish to be stubborn and turn away? It is a great pity. This is a fleeting opportunity, like the blossoming of an udumbara flower. You must grasp it firmly; otherwise, you will truly be left to meet again only after ten thousand kalpas of the cycle of being reincarnated.
Supporting the Great Work of Salvation
Human beings need to be saved through the human world. Today, a saviour has appeared, one who gives of themselves for the sake of all beings without regret. I deeply admire and am moved by the and boldness of Practitioner Su. If I had known Practitioner Su earlier, the landscape of mainland China would certainly have been different today, and the entire Buddhist community would not be in its current state. Now, I can only offer my full support from behind the scenes, creating infinite possibilities with my limited strength. For every additional person who gains faith, one more Buddha is achieved.
The Indestructible Power of Right Thought
I, Zhao Puchu, have always believed that there is nothing that cannot be accomplished. Even if there are obstacles, large or small, along the path of opening the way, even if I am only given a hammer, I will tap away day and night. No matter how large the boulder, there will come a day when I can break it into pieces. The path will certainly be opened one day. I always maintain right thought. The ninety-plus years of my life were sustained by this right thought, which helped me achieve my goals. I hope that every great who has resolved to save the world can possess this unyielding self-confidence and move forward bravely!
This message was recorded by the Buddha's disciple, Shi Fajing.
