The Illusion of External Wealth

Wealth is merely an external possession. It is something that everyone speaks of with ease, and intellectually, we all believe we understand its nature. We often say that we know it is not ours to keep, yet when the moment comes to truly let go, our actions often reveal a different story. We must ask ourselves if we truly understand the Truth, or if we are merely repeating words without internalising their meaning.

The Courage to Release Attachment

When we discuss the practice of Generosity, we often find ourselves hesitating. We talk about seeing through the illusions of the material world and letting go of our attachments, but in practice, we often pause to calculate the cost. We weigh the pros and cons before we decide to give. However, if we can make this practice easy and natural, we will find that it brings immense to the hearts of others. Through the act of giving, we establish a profound affinity with all beings.

The Radiance of Dharma Affinity

If you are fortunate enough to encounter the Buddha, you must cherish that connection. Every moment spent in the presence of the Dharma is an opportunity to receive the benefits of the Dharma. When you practise Generosity with a sincere heart, you will find that your mind is filled with a unique joy that arises from within. This joy is pure and profound; there is nothing else in this world that can replace it. It is a state of being that reflects the purity of your original nature.

The Eternal Cycle of Cause and Effect

The Truth of the universe is constant: Generosity is a cycle of losing and gaining. When you plant a good cause, you will inevitably reap a good fruit. If you find yourself in poverty or suffering in this life, it is often because of the greed you harboured in your past lives, and because you did not know how to practise Generosity. Conversely, if you are blessed with wealth and status in this life, it is the result of the Generosity you practised in your past lives, where you gave widely and worked for the benefit of others.

Merit That Leads to the of Ultimate Bliss

When your manifest in this life, you must learn to not dwell in the mind. If you can give without attachment, your actions become true merit that guides you toward the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. By letting go of the desire to possess, you clear the path for your own spiritual liberation. This is the essence of the path we follow, ensuring that our every action is aligned with the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way. This teaching was recorded by the Buddha's disciple, Venerable HaiZe.
