The Inherent Stillness of the True Self
Abiding in deep Meditation (Concentration) refers to the inherent stillness of our true self. It is a state of concentration that is naturally present within our original nature, remaining forever unmoved. This is the profound state of Meditation (Concentration) attained by those who have achieved the , the Avatamsaka Samadhi, and the wisdom of Dharani.
When we speak of abiding in deep Meditation (Concentration), we are not referring to the physical act of sitting in meditation, nor to the specific stages of the four stages of Meditation (Concentration) and eight concentrations found in traditional practices. Instead, it is a matter of putting in the work within the heart. It is about pointing directly to the original mind and realising the source of our existence. Regardless of how may move or act in the world, the heart remains completely unmoved. Because the heart is not disturbed by external conditions, one truly abides in this state of deep Meditation (Concentration).
The Vision of the Awakened
Abiding in deep Meditation (Concentration) is the natural state of those who have realised their true nature and attained Buddhahood. For those who have reached this level of attainment, every being they encounter is seen as a Buddha. This is the living embodiment of the first of Samantabhadra’s vows: respect for all Buddhas.
For those who have not yet realised their true nature, this state must be learned and cultivated through diligent practice. For those who have already realised their true nature, this state arises naturally from within, as it is the original quality of the true self.
The Boundless Freedom of the Western Land
To travel across all Buddha lands within a single thought is the realm of those who have attained Buddhahood. In the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss, the beings of the Western Land are blessed by the compassionate vow power of . Because of this, they are able to traverse all Buddha lands in an incredibly short amount of time, offering their respects and making offerings to all Buddhas while remaining in this state of deep Meditation (Concentration).
Harmonising Body, Mind, and Spirit
Those who abide in deep Meditation (Concentration) are individuals whose Body-Mind-Spirit are in a state of harmonious unity, allowing them to clearly understand both the phenomena of the world and the underlying principles of truth. They understand the profound harm that anger causes to both themselves and others. Therefore, they work to sever the roots of greed, anger, delusion, arrogance, and doubt, as well as the of wealth, lust, fame, food, and sleep. They also strive to eliminate all delusions, discriminations, and attachments.
Abiding in deep Meditation (Concentration) is, in essence, a natural state. It is a capability that every being possesses inherently. It is only waiting for us to engage in practice and purification, to remove our defilements and attain purity, so that we may reclaim this state once more.
