The Pure Land Lotus Land: A Sanctuary for the Soul

On the sixth of July, 2025, during the noon offering, Namo Amituofo provided these profound teachings regarding the nature of the Pure Land.

The Blossoming of the Lotus Land

The Pure Land refers to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. Within the Seven-Jewel Pond of that magnificent realm, lotus flowers bloom in abundance, and the air is filled with their divine fragrance. These lotus flowers are not merely physical objects; they are manifestations that arise in response to the sincere chanting of Buddha's name by beings throughout the Ten Directions of the Dharma Realm. As you practise and chant Buddha's name, the state of your heart and the depth of your devotion are reflected in the unique form and beauty of your own lotus flower. This is why the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss is often referred to as the Lotus Land.

The Pure Land Within Our Reach

The Pure Land is not confined solely to the distant Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. It can also be found here in the worldly realm. Wherever there is a place where practitioners gather to chant Buddha's name, make vows to be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, and engage in diligent practice and purification, that place becomes a manifestation of the Lotus Land. For those of us caught in the cycle of rebirth, wandering through the six realms of rebirth in various forms and appearances, life is often defined by the suffering brought about by our past karma. We may feel helpless, drifting through situations beyond our control. However, if you are fortunate enough to encounter the Pure Land Lotus Land, you are presented with a precious opportunity to be saved and liberated.

The Two-Fold Power of the Holy Name

This opportunity exists because the Dharma affinity with Namo Amituofo is boundless, reaching every corner where sentient beings reside. If you can hear the holy name of Namo Amituofo, that seed of Bodhi—the Vajra Seed—is planted within you. As the saying goes, once it enters the ear, it becomes a seed for the Path forever. This ensures that you have the potential to be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. The Pure Land Dharma Gate is a method of two-fold power: it relies on your own sincere effort, which is then uplifted and supported by the infinite power of the Buddha’s blessings.

Purifying the Body, Mind, and Spirit

You can chant Buddha's name anywhere and at any time. As you walk this path, do so step by step, with each footfall grounded in sincerity. When the holy name of Namo Amituofo resonates throughout your being, it creates a protective and purifying field. If you maintain this chanting 24/7, the sound will emerge from your heart, clear and distinct, never ceasing. It will surround your entire body, allowing your cells, your internal organs, and even the karmic creditors residing within you to receive the same purification. By remaining undisturbed by external influences and keeping your chanting continuous, you will eventually reach a state where you chant without the conscious effort of chanting, and you are without-chanting while still chanting. This is the mark of success in your practice.

A Sanctuary for All Beings

Continue this practice without interruption, holding onto that single holy name from your initial aspiration all the way to the attainment of Buddhahood.
