Interview with Dr. Helmut Sohmen (Former Chairman of BW Group)
How vast is the capacity of your heart? How deep is your , and how profound is your ability to tolerate the world? These qualities determine exactly how much of the Buddha-light you are able to receive. The Buddha-light shines upon every single being with perfect equality, showing no discrimination whatsoever. However, because each being carries different burdens and exists in different situations, the way they perceive and absorb this light varies greatly. Consequently, their individual realizations differ according to their own readiness.
You may wonder why karmic beings, once they are guided into the Western Land of Dharma Nature at the temple, experience such a profound and positive transformation in their character. The reason is that once they are bathed in the purification of the light within the Western Land of Dharma Nature, they begin to shed the heavy layers of defence they have built around their hearts. As these barriers fall away, the Buddha-light is able to shine directly into their core. Their character undergoes a fundamental shift: they turn away from evil and move toward goodness. They become capable of hearing the true Dharma and the Buddha’s teachings, and they begin to chant while circling the globe. In doing so, they transform from lost souls into vital members of the salvation team.
The light of Namo Amituofo is known by many names, each representing a specific function and benefit for the practitioner. These include the Wisdom Light, Constant Light, Pure Light, Joyful Light, Liberation Light, Peaceful Light, Light Beyond Sun and Moon, and Inconceivable Light. These names are not merely titles; they are the active forces of the Buddha-light. If you can receive this light, you will naturally inherit these benefits. However, this requires you to have faith in the Buddha, to commit to the process of purification, and to accept the Buddha’s words with an open heart. You must put these teachings into practice, diligently change your ways, and ensure your heart, your vows, and your Buddha-actions are in sync with the Buddha.
When you align yourself with the Buddha, you will feel the immense compassion, the power, and the boundless energy of the Buddha-light. It is the sincere wish of Namo Amituofo that every being may be bathed in this radiance and receive the full measure of the Buddha's . Furthermore, it is the hope that all disciples will engage in diligent practice, each searching within to rediscover their true self. By doing so, you will allow your own inherent Buddha-nature to shine forth, revealing the light that has been within you all along. Namo Amituofo.
