The Radiance of Life

On the nineteenth of December, 2025, during the second session of the Thrice Yearning Ceremony, Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju offered these profound teachings on the true nature of existence.

The True Measure of Existence

The radiance of life is not determined by the length of one's years, but by the quality of one's existence. It is not found in the accumulation of worldly achievements or personal fame, but in how much one has contributed to the well-being of others. True success is not measured by personal gain, but by the ability to help others leave suffering behind and find happiness. When we can ensure that others also attain this joy, our own life begins to shine with a genuine, inner light.

Awakening the True Self

The true self resides within the heart and spirit of every person. Countless beings possess this same original nature, yet it remains obscured by the dust of our daily lives. The purpose of our practice is to rediscover this true self. By doing so, we not only save ourselves but also gain the capacity to help others leave suffering behind and achieve rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. This is how we manifest the true radiance of life.

The Fruits of Diligent Practice

This radiance is cultivated through the discipline of self-purification. It is the result of diligent practice in the Precepts (Discipline), Concentration and Wisdom, which serve as the foundation of our path. When these are well-established, the clarity of Wisdom (Prajna) manifests as the ultimate achievement of our persistent efforts.

Inner Wealth and Compassion

The radiance of life does not depend on the amount of wealth one possesses, but on the stability and satisfaction of the spirit. It is not defined by external beauty, but by the inner qualities of the heart. These qualities are the most precious assets one can ever own:

• Compassion: A heart that feels for the suffering of others.
• Wisdom (Prajna): The ability to see the truth of the universe.
• Goodness: A natural inclination toward virtuous actions.
• Beauty: The purity of a spirit that reflects the light of the Buddha.

Spreading the Light of Namo Amituofo

Ultimately, the radiance of life is found in our commitment to sharing the truth with the world. It lies in our efforts to help all beings recognise Namo Amituofo and the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. We must strive to ensure that the holy name of Namo Amituofo resonates continuously throughout the Dharma Realm, the worldly realm, and every corner of our globe, including Australia, Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, and Singapore.

A Legacy of Deliverance

The radiance of life is found in the transmission of the Pure Land Dharma Gate. By following the Buddha and helping others, we ensure that this path is passed down through generations. Our collective mission is to save all boundless suffering sentient beings, ensuring that no one is left behind in the cycle of rebirth. Let us continue this work with unwavering dedication, for in saving others, we truly fulfil the purpose of our own lives.
