Light is something that all beings naturally yearn for and seek to draw near. This is because light brings with it a sense of clarity, warmth, and hope. In the vast expanse of the universe, the Buddha-light of Namo Amituofo shines brilliantly, reaching out to the ten directions without exception.
When beings are touched by the illumination of the Buddha-light, their accumulated impurities are extinguished, and their inherent goodness begins to flourish. They reveal their original, pure nature. Consider the beings trapped in the deepest suffering of the Three Evil Realms:
If these beings are fortunate enough to encounter the Buddha-light, they immediately find rest. Upon the end of their current life, they are granted liberation. This is the magnificent and incomparable power of the Buddha-light. Furthermore, the beings connected to the fourfold assembly of disciples also receive this blessing. Through the grace of the Buddha-light, their bodies and minds become soft and supple, and they are able to leave behind the suffering of the lower realms. This occurs because the light contains the infinite radiance, majestic power, and meritorious virtues of Namo Amituofo.
The Buddha-light is truly magnificent, yet it is important to realise that this same potential resides within every one of us. If you are able to search within and rediscover your true nature—the nature that is identical to that of the Buddha—then the Buddha-nature within you will manifest. Your inner light will begin to shine, and your heart will radiate with the same compassionate light that illuminates the universe.
For the practitioner, the path to this radiance is clear:
This is the true meaning of extinguishing impurities and allowing goodness to flourish.
This principle of light applies even to the celestial beings in the heavenly realms. The more pure a being’s body and mind, the more radiant their light becomes. The beings in the higher heavenly realms possess light that is increasingly pure and bright. Beyond them, the sages of the Four Sacred Realms possess body-light and dwell in realms of light that far transcend the twenty-eight levels of the heavens. From this, we can understand that the light emanating from the bodies of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and the light of the Buddha-lands themselves, is even more supreme than the light of the sages of the Four Sacred Realms.
The of Ultimate Bliss is a realm where light shines everywhere, for it is the place where all the highest, most virtuous beings gather together. Every being in the Western Pure Land, regardless of their level of attainment, is free from defilement and radiates a brilliant, pure light. Consequently, the entire Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss presents itself as a singular, unified body of light that illuminates the ten directions.
At the place where Namo Amituofo truly abides—the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia—the Western Land of Nature has been established. This sacred space was built through the great vows and actions of Practitioner Su to save beings, and it exists under the compassionate of Namo Amituofo. It is a place where the light shines everywhere.
Those who are fortunate enough to enter the Western Land of Dharma Nature receive the blessings of the Buddha. Their impurities are extinguished, their goodness flourishes, and they manifest a body of light. Here, they sit upon lotus seats, engaging in pure practice and listening to sutras to hear the Dharma. This centre serves as a vital transition station for those seeking rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. It is a true ray of hope for spirits as they journey from the spiritual realms into the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
