The Source of the Sublime Sound

The term Sound of the Buddha, the , and the Sangha originates from the sacred text, The Infinite Sutra, The Buddha Speaks the , Infinite Life, Adornment, Purity, Impartiality, and Sutra, specifically within the chapter detailing the merits of the springs and ponds. This sound is one of the countless subtle and profound resonances that emanate from the Eight-Virtue Water within the Seven-Jewel Pond of the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss.

It is not merely a sound, but a transformative vibration that touches the very core of one's being. When a practitioner hears this sound, it immediately evokes a state of profound purity within their heart. It dissolves the barriers of discrimination and fosters a sense of perfect equality, allowing the practitioner to perceive the world as it truly is.

Purifying the Heart and Mind

As the heart becomes pure and the mind settles into stillness, the practitioner's upright heart begins to manifest. This is the moment when one's good roots—the seeds of virtue planted over countless lifetimes—finally begin to mature. The sound acts as a catalyst, nurturing these seeds so that they may blossom into full spiritual realisation.

It is important to understand that this experience is deeply personal and responsive to the individual's state of mind:

  • If you truly wish to hear this sound, you will hear it.
  • If you do not wish to hear it, it will not manifest for you.
  • For those who hear it, their Bodhi and their vow to attain Buddhahood will never retreat or diminish.

A Personalised Path to Enlightenment

Within the subtle, undulating waves of the Eight-Virtue Water, the sound is remarkably versatile. It can manifest as the specific teachings that a being most needs to hear at that moment. Alternatively, it may flow naturally as a glorious hymn of praise to the Three Jewels—the Buddha, the Teachings, and the Sangha Community—or as the resonant chanting of the Buddha's name, the Dharma, and the Sangha.

Across the Ten Directions of the Dharma Realm, every world and every space possesses its own unique manifestations of the Three Jewels, each with its own distinct form and sound. However, the sound emanating from the Eight-Virtue Water in the Western Land is unique. Those who reside there, according to their own vows and the maturity of their good roots, are able to hear and fully comprehend the profound meaning and the practical application of the Three Jewels.

The Manifestation of Namo Amituofo’s

In truth, this infinite, subtle sound is the manifestation of the teachings of Namo Amituofo himself. It is a compassionate tool designed to assist all beings in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. In that environment of supreme dignity, where there is no suffering, beings can dwell in and ease. The sound ensures that:

  • The hearing of the Dharma is never interrupted.
  • No moment of time is ever spent in vain.
  • Practitioners can listen to the teachings within the resonance of the waves, steadily increasing their spiritual achievements.
  • They are guided to attain Buddhahood as swiftly as possible.

This is the practical application of the Forty-eight Great Vows. It is the fulfilment of the promise that all beings who are reborn in the Western Land will certainly attain the status of equal and perfect enlightenment. Namo Amituofo.
