The Source of Our Destiny: Not from Others
Teachings from Namo Amituofo
Recorded and transcribed by Namo Amituofo’s disciple, Venerable HaiZe, on November 4, 2023
The Diversity of Beings and the Seeds of
The world, the Earth, and the myriad sentient beings throughout the Realm exist in a state of profound diversity. Each realm, each space, and each dimension possesses its own unique characteristics, and more importantly, its own unique state of mind. The intentions we hold when we create a cause are never identical, and therefore, the fruits we reap will inevitably differ. When we speak of collective karma, it refers to a situation where many beings create the same cause together, thus sharing the same karmic consequences to resolve a particular karmic debt. However, even within this shared experience, each individual possesses a distinct heart and mind, which leads to the creation of individual karma that sets our paths apart.
The Universal Principle of Cause and Effect
Whether one is a being in the human world possessing a physical body, or a spirit in the spiritual realms without a physical form, the laws of karma and cause and effect remain the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way. We must all uphold the fundamental truth of this principle: if you plant a good cause, you will reap a good fruit; if you avoid planting a negative cause, you will be spared from suffering evil consequences. Because the hearts and minds of beings are so varied, their actions and the resulting karmic retributions are equally diverse. This is why we see such a vast array of different appearances and life circumstances among beings. It is essential to realise that everything you experience is a result of your own actions, not the work of others. Your destiny is entirely in your own hands.
The Manifestation of the Vow
The presence or absence of a vow within one's heart depends entirely on whether one truly understands the nature of suffering. When you truly recognise the depth of suffering, your will naturally arise. You will then feel a deep, sincere wish for yourself and all other beings to leave suffering behind and find happiness. This is when the vow manifests. At this moment, Namo Amituofo reveals the Fragrant Light. Practitioner Su and Namo Amituofo share the same heart and the same vow, working in perfect harmony. This is the true Buddha-actions being carried out in this world, which stands in stark contrast to the hearts and actions of demons.
The Path of Transformation
The existence of negative forces actually serves a purpose: it highlights the profound difference between the Buddha-heart and the demon-heart, the distinction between Buddha-actions and harmful actions, and the precious opportunity afforded to those who possess a physical body. If you can transform your heart and your actions, your physical presence will also change. Through this process of transformation, the Buddha-heart and the Buddha-vow can finally be revealed. This is the essence of transforming karma. Even a demon has the potential to transform into a Buddha, for every being possesses the same original nature. Now, with Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su appearing in this world, the Dharma affinity is manifest. By entering the Dharma land, you are provided with the perfect opportunity for this transformation. Whether you can successfully transform your karma, realise your true nature and attain Buddhahood depends entirely on your own diligent efforts. Namo Amituofo.
