The True Meaning of Compassion
Teachings from Namo Amituofo

The Foundation of the Buddha's Path
If you are a true practitioner of the Buddha’s gate, your primary duty is to learn the essence of . Compassion is not a distant ideal; it is the very heart of your daily practice. To treat yourself with compassion is to extend that same kindness to the and attached spirits residing within your own body, and even to the demon crowds that may surround you. To reach such a state of being, you must first truly understand the nature of the Buddha. The Buddha has completely let go of the 'self'. There is no ego, only the needs of all beings. Because the Buddha is truly selfless, He can act without purpose, without seeking reward, and with a heart that sincerely wishes for others to leave suffering behind and find happiness. This is the true meaning of compassion.
Compassion as a Path to Liberation
Since you have already set aside the mundane world to enter the Buddha’s gate, you must recognise that this physical body is but an illusion and that your time is limited. At Hsiang Kuang, with the support of Namo Amituofo, the Teacher, and Practitioner Su, you must seize the present moment. You must engage in diligent practice to resolve conflicts with all beings. Through this, you allow them to receive . Whether these beings enter the Western Land of Nature, the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss, or the realms of humans and heavens, they are freed from the suffering of this life and granted a new beginning. This is how you treat beings with compassion: by providing them with the actual relief they need. Furthermore, as you resolve these karmic debts, you achieve Body-Mind-Spirit purification. This is how you treat yourself with compassion.
The Many Facets of Compassion
Compassion manifests in many ways throughout your daily life. It is not always an outward action; often, it begins within the stillness of your own heart:
- Maintaining a calm heart:
- When your mind is settled and free from ripples, you do not disturb or awaken the negative tendencies in others. This stillness is a profound form of compassion.Fiercely diligent practice: You must strive until you reach the state of an awakened being
- . By achieving this, you not only save yourself but also gain the power to save others.Serving the community:
- Offer your service to all beings, making things convenient and joyful for them without ever asking for anything in return.A gentle countenance: When you meet others with a kind and peaceful face, you help them feel secure, allowing them to move away from their fears.
The Ultimate Realisation
When you reach the state of an awakened being, you gain the ability to be the master of your own life. By purifying this body, you transform it into a . You can even purify your own cells, and in doing so, guide the beings within your body to become a Buddha. When you become a part of the countless manifestations of the Buddha, you are embodying great compassion in its most complete and perfect form.
