The True Meaning of Compassion
Teachings from Namo Amituofo
Recorded and transcribed by Namo Amituofo’s disciple, Venerable HaiZe, on November 10, 2023
The Stirring of the Heart
When you witness the suffering of sentient beings, does your heart stir with the desire to save them? Do you feel a deep, compassionate urge to help them leave suffering behind and find true happiness? It is a natural aspiration to wish for others to be joyful, satisfied, and free from all lack. This impulse is the beginning of the path toward .
The of Ultimate Bliss exists precisely because Namo Amituofo witnessed the endless suffering of beings trapped within the cycle of rebirth. Seeing that they were unable to escape this cycle on their own, Namo Amituofo made the Forty-eight Great Vows. Every single one of these vows is a testament to the hope that all beings might leave suffering behind and find happiness. By establishing this spiritual realm, Namo Amituofo has provided a true home for the spirits of all beings, ensuring they no longer need to endure the pains of reincarnation and can instead find eternal peace.
A Sanctuary of Infinite Light
Within the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, you are cradled in an environment of Infinite Light and Infinite Life. In this sacred space, you are given the opportunity to rediscover your original, true nature. Here, you will never again suffer, but will only receive all happiness. This is the manifestation of the great , the great vow, and the great majestic power of Namo Amituofo. It is a gift designed to benefit the vast, boundless number of sentient beings across the ten directions of the Realm, the vastness of the Dharma Realm, and the entire galaxy.
It is my deepest hope that the name of Namo Amituofo will be spread far and wide, reaching the heart, the mouth, and the ears of every being in every space. For those who have the karmic affinity to be saved, they shall enter the Western Pure Land. For those who do not yet have this affinity, the mere act of hearing the name of Namo Amituofo plants a seed of the Buddha's path within their . Even if it takes countless eons, that seed will eventually sprout, and they will surely find their time to be saved.
The Unconditional Nature of True Compassion
True compassion is entirely selfless; it seeks no reward and asks for nothing in return. It desires only that the other person leaves suffering behind and finds happiness. When beings enter the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, Namo Amituofo does not ask for any repayment. The only wish is that these beings attain eternal peace and . This joy is not fleeting; it arises from the heart, from one's own true self, and eventually leads to the attainment of Buddhahood and entry into the Land of Eternally Quiescent Light.
The Forty-eight Great Vows are universal in their application. They are not limited to the beings of this Earth, but extend to all beings in other realms, throughout the vastness of the Dharma Realm, and across the entire universe and galaxy. All beings with karmic affinity can leave suffering behind and find happiness through these vows. Once they enter the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, they are immersed in Infinite Light and Infinite Life, where they can diligently practise until they realise their true nature and attain Buddhahood.
The Work of Deliverance at Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre
In the present day, the work being carried out by Practitioner Su at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre is a direct extension of this mission. Through the power of subduing demonic enemies, Practitioner Su is helping a vast array of beings to enter the Western Land of Dharma Nature. This includes:
- Demonic beings residing on Earth
- Demonic beings throughout the universe
- Demonic beings within the galaxy
- Demonic beings from the heavens beyond the heavens
- Various other demonic beings and those on wrong paths
Once these beings enter the Western Land of Dharma Nature, they are guided into the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. There, just like all other beings, they can leave suffering behind and find happiness through the Forty-eight Great Vows. Upon entering the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, they too are bathed in Infinite Light and Infinite Life, where they can practise until they realise their true nature and attain Buddhahood.
