The Truth About Spiritual Deliverance
An Interview with Venerable Chang Gao
Reflections on the Deliverance Work at Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre
This interview was recorded on April 3, 2019, at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. Venerable Chang Gao, a dedicated practitioner who has sought deliverance and guidance at the Centre, shares profound reflections on the true nature of and the extraordinary deliverance work performed by Practitioner Su.
Venerable Chang Gao speaks:
"In the human world, one hears of assemblies for Chao Du being held constantly. But how many of these truly succeed in delivering sentient beings to the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss? This is something the people of the world find difficult to discern. Many assume that the more famous the Venerable, the larger the scale of the Dharma assembly, and the more money spent, the greater the capacity to deliver the deceased person to the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. In reality, based on what I have witnessed, if one were to ask how many are truly delivered, the truth—though difficult for people to accept—is that the number is extremely small! While the human world remains largely in the dark about this, the spirit realm is perfectly clear."
The Unseen Work of Deliverance
"At the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia, the is held weekly, and every single day at dawn, Practitioner Su performs deliverance through her . Day after day, immeasurable and boundless sentient beings are delivered to be reborn in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. Apart from the fourfold assembly (monks, nuns, laymen, laywomen) at the temple, very few people are aware of this, yet the spirit realm knows it with absolute clarity. This is the true essence of the work we perform daily under the guidance of Practitioner Su: delivering sentient beings throughout the entire Dharma-realm and empty space, and across the Milky Way, to be reborn in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss."
A Truth Beyond Human Imagination
"To speak of this sounds like a fairy tale, yet it is the absolute truth. It requires a heart of great and a mind-capacity as vast as Practitioner Su’s to accomplish such a feat. This is not an exaggeration; it is a reality. Throughout the past and into the present, no one has been able to do what Practitioner Su does: daily, with the freedom of her Dharma Body, travelling back to the Western Pure Land to lead sentient beings there. It is truly inconceivable!
For the fourfold assembly (monks, nuns, laymen, laywomen) at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, the five to ten minutes of chanting Namo Amituofo at the conclusion of our daily study sessions is a golden opportunity. It is a time when Practitioner Su helps us deliver the and spiritual attachments residing within our own bodies. We can all witness countless spirits, one by one, departing from our bodies toward the large chime bowl or into the Buddha-light, all amidst the sound of the Buddha-name and Practitioner Su’s guidance through the sounding of the qing."
The Measure of Compassion
"Compassion and mind-capacity are such abstract concepts for many people; they are difficult to truly grasp. Because people today are generally consumed by selfishness and self-interest, it is rare to encounter someone with the great compassion and vast mind-capacity of Practitioner Su. I have practised all the way to the Dharma Realm, and I have yet to see anyone like her. To follow conditions and transform circumstances requires not only Wisdom (Prajna) but, more importantly, a heart of great compassion. This cannot be expressed in mere numbers, but it is manifested through the practical results of actual deliverance. Only those connected by karmic affinity can receive these benefits of the Dharma.
There are so many inconceivable and indescribable events that occur around Practitioner Su, and they leave me filled with admiration and praise. In my heart, I feel an infinite sense of gratitude."
