On the ninth of November, 2025, Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju offered these essential teachings on the path of practice.
Knowledge is the understanding of the underlying principles of the , while action is the practical application of those principles in our daily lives. When knowledge and action are harmonised, they support and reinforce one another. This is how we ensure that our affairs proceed smoothly and our understanding of the truth becomes clear. If you can balance these two aspects, you will find that your path becomes steady and your wisdom begins to shine.
In terms of knowledge, you must understand the profound importance of Buddha-recitation and the correct methods to practise it. In terms of action, you must engage in diligent practice. By uniting knowledge and action, you can chant Namo Amituofo all the way. Through this continuous, uninterrupted chanting, you will attain the . From there, you can enter the wisdom of the Dharani, gaining true spiritual freedom. When you reach the moment of passing, if you can keep your mind from confusion and chant with a sincere and earnest heart, you will see Namo Amituofo appear before you, leading you to be reborn in the of Ultimate Bliss.
When you understand the power of the Forty-eight Great Vows of Namo Amituofo, you realise how the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss was created. Your action should be to make a firm vow to be reborn there. You must chant with such focus that you reach a state of selflessness, where your ego and personality dissolve. When you achieve this level of meditative concentration, you have truly united knowledge and action, ensuring your wish to enter the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss is fulfilled.
You must realise that this human body is invaluable, for it is the vessel through which you can engage in True Cultivation. Your action must be one of fierce diligence. With strong meditative concentration, you will not be swayed by external disturbances or internal afflictions. By uniting knowledge and action, you will diligently practise the (Discipline), Concentration and Wisdom, and perfect the Six Perfections, thereby reclaiming your true self.
True knowledge involves understanding the manifestation of compassion, wisdom, mind-capacity, and inclusivity. In action, you must remove defilements to attain purity, working selflessly for the benefit of all beings. You must expand your mind-capacity to embrace the shortcomings of others. By balancing compassion and wisdom, you will remain impartial in both principle and practice. This unity of knowledge and action aligns you with the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way, marking you as one who has achieved success in purification.
