Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju's teachings:
When you begin your journey in learning the Buddha’s teachings, the first step is to cultivate true faith. Within this faith, you come to know the , and through this knowledge, you develop a deep understanding. This understanding is essential, for it allows you to clearly perceive the nature of reality. Specifically, it enables you to understand the causes and consequences of your actions, recognising how your past deeds shape your present life, and to see the truth of the world as it truly is, stripping away the illusions that cloud your perception.
Once you have attained this understanding, you must base your actions upon it. As you practise, you must maintain unwavering faith in the Buddha and the Dharma. This faith is not merely a passive feeling; it is a potent energy that naturally transforms into a driving force within your life. When you combine this energy with your vows and your daily practice, it enters into your actions, making them powerful and effective. This synergy further amplifies your faith in the Buddha and the Dharma, creating a virtuous cycle that propels you toward the ultimate goal: the realisation of liberation from the cycle of rebirth and the attainment of an awakened being.
Throughout the process of right faith and right understanding in Buddhist education, you will inevitably encounter challenges. It is vital to seek the guidance of a true spiritual friend. A true spiritual friend acts as a beacon, helping you to overcome the various frictions and obstacles that arise in your daily life and your spiritual practice, and to navigate the complexities of the path with wisdom and clarity, gaining a deeper, more nuanced understanding of the Buddha’s teachings as you progress.
Many individuals who possess a deep Dharma affinity will find themselves naturally transitioning from mere study into dedicated practice. As you deepen your understanding through consistent practice, your commitment will naturally grow. This often leads to a transformation in your role within the community. You may find yourself joining the ranks of lay practitioners or volunteers, or perhaps even transitioning into the monastic life, all in the pursuit of the path to liberation and the ability to leave suffering behind.
The unity of right faith and right understanding in Buddhist education is the essential process for receiving Buddhist education and entering the Buddha’s gate. It is only through this integrated approach that you can truly prepare yourself for the opportunity to chant , be reborn in the of Ultimate Bliss, or realise your true nature and attain Buddhahood.
