This is a record of an interview with a spirit who had been reincarnated as an orange, who sought deliverance at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. She now awaits the transformation of her spirit through the of Practitioner Su. Recorded by the disciple Lay Practitioner Li Jiaxian on October 7, 2017.

Lay Practitioner Li Jiaxian speaks:

"Namo Amituofo. Is there an orange here willing to accept an interview?"

The Spirit of the Orange speaks:

"Me! I volunteer! I am jumping out to accept your interview. Oh, a fellow countryman! You have such a familiar accent—I am from Taiwan too! It is such a blessing to meet someone from home. You truly have great to be here at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre."

A Life of Luxury and Vanity

"You ask how I became an orange? Let me tell you, it is a long and rather vain story. I was a young lady who lived a life of absolute luxury. My family was very wealthy, and we had domestic helpers for everything. Every single morning, before I even opened my eyes, the housekeeper would have a nutritious, health-conscious breakfast waiting for me. Most importantly, I had to have a glass of fresh orange juice every single day. I was obsessed with the idea that all that Vitamin C would make me more beautiful, give my skin more elasticity, and make me look absolutely stunning. I spent my days dressing up, shopping, drinking coffee, and gossiping with friends. I thought I was the centre of the world."

The Final Drive

"One day, I was driving my sports car, taking a friend out for a drive by the seaside. I had brought along a thermos of the orange juice my housekeeper had prepared for me. I poured a glass for my friend and one for myself. As I drove, I opened the sunroof and let the cool sea breeze blow through my hair—it was truly delightful. I was so caught up in the gossip, laughing and chatting, completely distracted by the beautiful coastal scenery. I was sipping my favourite orange juice, feeling like life was perfect. Then, in a split second, a massive truck appeared right in front of us. There was no time to swerve, no time to react. We crashed head-on. It was absolutely horrific! I died on the spot."

A New Life as a Fruit

"In that final, chaotic moment of the accident, the orange juice I was holding splashed all over my face. When I finally regained , I found myself trapped inside the skin of an orange! Even as an orange, I could not let go of my vanity. I was determined to be the most beautiful fruit in the basket. I worked so hard to keep my skin tight, smooth, and glowing. I refused to let myself become shrivelled or wrinkled like the other oranges. I was so proud of my appearance that when the farmer sold me to the supermarket, I was always the first one chosen by the customers. I was the 'perfect' orange."

Hope for Restoration

"This time, I was selected by Practitioner Su to be part of this box of fruit brought to the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. I have such incredible and blessings to be here! I have heard the other fruits and vegetables talking about how Practitioner Su can restore us to our original forms. I am so excited! I am filled with such anticipation! I know that soon, she will help us recover our original appearances. I want to thank Practitioner Su from the bottom of my heart for this chance at deliverance. Namo Amituofo."
