’s discourse:
The Sacred Vow of Steadfastness
To hold fast to one's position is not merely a task; it is a profound responsibility and a fundamental duty. When you perform your duties well within the daily life of the community, you are fulfilling an essential aspect of your practice. Do not underestimate the importance of any assignment you are given. Every role, no matter how small it may seem, is a vital thread in the tapestry of our collective life.
Transcending the Illusion of Great and Small
We often fall into the trap of categorising our duties as either large or small. In truth, this distinction is merely a product of the mind. If you approach your work without a wandering or attached heart, where could such a distinction exist? From the perspective of the , the assignment of tasks is based on the person, the time, and the place, ensuring that each individual is given the role most appropriate for their growth and the needs of the community.
The Symphony of Collective Harmony
Within the monastic community and the daily life of the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre, each person must hold their position firmly. You must know when to perform specific tasks and ensure they are completed with care, so as not to disrupt the flow of others. This is especially critical during our communal activities and the conduct of our Dharma assemblies. When everyone in the group holds fast to their position, the affairs of the community proceed with grace and efficiency.
Purifying the Heart Through Diligent Service
Holding fast to your position within the temple and performing your duties with sincerity is a wonderful method to serve the public, expand your mind-capacity, and increase your . At the same time, this dedication serves as a powerful way to dissolve your spiritual obstacles. Do not let the bits and pieces of your daily service pass by in vain. Every small action, when accumulated over time, contributes significantly to the purification of your . Never look down upon the small, incremental efforts you make, for it is through these that great merit is gathered.
Cherishing the Abundance of the Temple
As we live and practise within the temple, we must be mindful of the public resources we use. We should cherish these and use them with caution, avoiding any form of waste. This is particularly true for resources like water, which are not easily obtained. By practising restraint and gratitude in our daily consumption, we cultivate a heart that is attuned to the needs of all beings.
The Eternal Path of the Right Way
Regardless of your age, your role, or your status, this commitment to duty is the hallmark of a true disciple of the fourfold assembly. To fulfil your responsibilities and do your best in your assigned duties is the proper heart and action for any practitioner. Whether in the past, present, and future, and throughout the Ten Directions of the Dharma Realm, this principle remains the same. It is the path of the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way, and it is how we maintain our connection to the Truth.
