The Vision of Great Master Xuanzang
An Interview with Great Master Xuanzang
Recorded on the First of November, 2020
A Vision of
One day, I shall witness the students of the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre realise their true nature and attain Buddhahood. This will be the ultimate reward for the protection and guidance provided by Namo Amituofo, Practitioner Su, and the ancestral masters. In a quiet corner of Australia, in the sacred land of Goombungee, a light for this age of the ’s decline has been ignited.
The Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre serves as a cradle and a place of achievement for those who seek to realise their true nature. Led by Practitioner Su, the students carry the heavy responsibility of spreading the Dharma and saving sentient beings. Together, they stand as a beacon of hope for the galaxy, the universe, and the ten directions. Their work in saving suffering spirits and those who have perished in the current pandemic is vast, and they have already helped infinite suffering beings achieve rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. Yet, the number of beings who can be saved, and who are waiting for help, remains boundless.
The Abode of Namo Amituofo
Namo Amituofo. I am Xuanzang. I have never once left the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, for this place is where Namo Amituofo truly abides, and Namo Amituofo has never left this centre. The heart of Namo Amituofo is my heart, and my heart is the heart of Namo Amituofo. The heart of Practitioner Su is the heart of Namo Amituofo, and the heart of Namo Amituofo is the heart of Practitioner Su. I am waiting for the hearts of the students to become one with Namo Amituofo, just as Namo Amituofo’s heart is one with theirs.
The heart is the supreme path. Those who understand the heart and know how to use it are pure and wise; those who do not understand the heart and are used by their own defiled thoughts are foolish. Practitioners of the Buddha’s path must learn to use the Dharma of the heart skillfully. Within this Dharma, one can see the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way, walking the Buddha’s path without deviating from the righteous path. The righteous path and the Buddha’s path are both righteous practice. Right Faith manifests in action; right action arises from the heart; right Vows arise from Faith. When your heart and actions are unified and never depart from Faith, Vows, and Practice, why worry about failing to manifest the Great Vows of Namo Amituofo? Why fear that you cannot enter the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss?
The Path of the True Self
It is now up to the students to walk step by step, advancing with diligent practice and never letting a single thought stray from the compassionate vows of Namo Amituofo. The Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre will manifest its light to the world, and the holy name of Namo Amituofo will be spread throughout the Dharma Realm. Infinite suffering beings will enter the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss because of this, and the merits will dignify one’s own mind and Buddha-land. This is the dignity of the heart for those who have realised their true nature.
The Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre has endured many trials and hardships along its journey. Looking at the truth of reality today, I see that everything depends on . Success is me, failure is me, realising my true nature is me, the ordinary person is me—everything is me. But which is the true self, and which is the false self? The true self realises its true nature; it is priceless and moves straight ahead, for it is infinite. The false self is the physical body, which is limited, gradually withering and aging. One must seek the true self within this false body. Through the false body, the true self is revealed. To teach beings in this world, one must use both the true self and the false body. The true self’s Prajna wisdom must be exercised in this world through the false body. This is the preciousness of the true self and the false body appearing together in the world, enabling the to perform and save infinite beings. In this age of the Dharma’s decline, spirits are stubborn and shrouded in darkness. If a practitioner has not realised their true nature and attained the Dharma Body, it is truly difficult to teach and transform those connected beings in the Five Turbidities and Evil World, allowing them to be purified and enter the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
The Compassionate Mission of Practitioner Su
Practitioner Su, my beloved student, uses this false body and the Prajna wisdom of the true self to operate according to the Truth. He moves through this world, breaking through space to save all spirits. When the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre was established in Goombungee, Australia, the region suffered from drought. My student sought rain without violating the laws of heaven and earth. By utilising the great power of Namo Amituofo’s name, he taught the earth, the vegetation, and all creatures to chant the Buddha’s name, transforming the magnetic field of the collective of the drought, and successfully bringing rain. Furthermore, when my student saw the pandemic spreading across the Earth, causing suffering and cries of despair, he relied on the power of Namo Amituofo—the Great Physician—and his own holy virtue to subdue the demon crowds and the Plague God, performing Chao Du for those who had passed away due to the pandemic. Such feats are beyond the capabilities of ordinary practitioners.
Opening the Spaces of History
Today, during the , my student leads the ancestral masters of the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss—myself included—and the Hsiang Kuang salvation team to perform Chao Du for beings in mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Southeast Asia, and Australia. Wherever the Dharma Body and the team go, they are one. They cover the space and all the spirits that can be seen or heard by the physical eyes and . There is no distinction between 'you' and 'me,' especially for those spirits who died in this pandemic, whose sorrow is unbearable. My student opened the space of the ancient city of Chang'an, covering the time before I went to the Western Regions to seek scriptures, the places I passed through, the situation of translating scriptures after returning to Chang'an, and even the achievements of my students who spread the translated scriptures far and wide.
These spaces are countless, and I entered them with my Dharma Body. Upon entering, I saw the vast desert, where dust and sand were flying. When the dust and sand saw me enter, they became calm. I used the Buddha-light and the Buddha’s name to awaken the spirituality of the dust and sand, and they chanted the Buddha’s name together. In another space, I saw many students buried in their work of translating scriptures, not yet knowing that they were spirits who had already passed away. When they saw me enter, they stood up and pressed their palms together. I was astonished that so many spirits of my students remained in this space. I used a steady and gentle voice to invite them to chant 'Namo Amituofo' with me. In yet another space, I saw the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda and the Ci'en Temple, where many laypeople, civilians, and monastics from all over the country were gathered. Alas! These were all connected beings who had not been able to leave this space. There were so many of them! When they saw me enter, they respectfully pressed their palms together. At that moment, the Buddha-light from myself and the Chao Du team, along with the Buddha’s name chanted by the fourfold assembly at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, rang out simultaneously. I led these spirits to chant the Buddha’s name together.
The Great Deliverance
In the very short time from when my student opened the space until he returned to the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, I performed Chao Du for the connected spirits in each space. Amidst the Buddha’s name and the Buddha-light, they left their spaces, joined my student, and together chanted the name of Namo Amituofo, being sent into the Buddha-light and the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. This situation also included other ancestral masters performing Chao Du for their own connected beings in their respective spaces—it was a magnificent sight! When everyone chanted the name of Namo Amituofo together, the scene was deeply moving. At the same time, the spirits who died due to the pandemic were also saved. When the underworld is at peace, the human world is stable. This is of great help in alleviating the anxiety caused by the pandemic, and it can turn the skewed orbit and magnetic field of the Earth, helping the human heart return to the Right Way.
This undertaking required my student’s Great Vows to be at the forefront, and we participated with , for these vows do not depart from the great compassionate vows of Namo Amituofo, and they rely on the great power, great heart, and great strength of Namo Amituofo. The Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre continues to perform Chao Du, and we accompany them in this grand event. We hope that the pandemic will be resolved soon and that people’s lives can return to normal as quickly as possible. Namo Amituofo, Practitioner Su, and the fourfold assembly of the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre will continue to perform Chao Du for all creatures and spread the Pure Land teachings.
Namo Amituofo.
