The Vital Importance of Continuous Chanting
Teachings from Namo Amituofo
Recorded on 6 December 2024
The Impermanence of the Physical Form
Our time in this world is fleeting, and the physical body is destined to decay. When our causal conditions in this life reach their end, we must be prepared. Before one has reached the state of an awakened being, the stains of worldly attachments still linger within the heart. Therefore, if you wish to rediscover your original, true nature, you must never abandon your practice as long as you have a single breath remaining. Even if you are old or suffering from illness, as long as your faith in Namo Amituofo remains unshaken, and your vow to chant and seek rebirth in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss does not waver, you must continue to chant without interruption.
The Power of the Final Thought
As long as you have a single breath left, you have the opportunity to let go of all worldly attachments and focus your heart entirely on chanting Namo Amituofo. By doing so, you still have the chance to enter the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. The final thought at the moment of death is of paramount importance. It acts as the decisive pivot point that determines whether one will be reincarnated into the six realms of existence or ascend to the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. For those who are ill, this vow to seek rebirth in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss is even more critical.
Overcoming the Suffering of Illness
Many practitioners often lose their faith in the Buddha when they are tormented by the pain of illness. They forget to chant, and because they have not yet managed to transform , they remain pulled by the force of their past actions, leading them into the cycle of reincarnation. This is why you must put in the work during your daily life. Those who have developed deep concentration and skills can transform karma. Even when past karmic debts manifest, they are not pulled into suffering; instead, they remain steady and are able to transform that karma.
The Path of the Dedicated Practitioner
To let go of all worldly attachments and chant with a sincere heart is the way of those who follow the Buddha. By doing so, you will receive the Buddha's blessing. If your life is at its end, you will be able to chant and achieve rebirth in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss; if your life is not yet at its end, you will continue to live and chant. When you are suffering from the pain of illness, you should be even more diligent in your practice. You must understand that the power of the Buddha is inconceivable. Throughout your entire life, let every thought be of the Buddha, and your wish to be reborn in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss will be fulfilled. A practitioner of the school must ensure that the chanting of Namo Amituofo is continuous in their heart, in their actions, and in their vows.
