The Blessing of Spiritual Guidance

In our journey of practice, if you are fortunate enough to encounter a Buddha, a , an ancestral master, or a true spiritual friend, you have been granted a rare and precious opportunity. When your thoughts, speech, and actions begin to deviate from the right path, these guides can help you identify the error. This timely intervention allows you to correct your course before a minor mistake blossoms into a grave sin. It is a profound blessing to have someone who can point out the shadows in our own minds that we are otherwise unable to see.

The Accumulation of Karmic Debt

Without the guidance of a Buddha, Bodhisattva, or a true spiritual friend, we often remain blind to the subtle shifts in our own Body, Speech, and Mind. We may continue to harbour incorrect thoughts without even realising it. When these problems are left unaddressed, they do not simply vanish; instead, they persist and eventually solidify into ingrained habits. Once a behaviour becomes a habit, it is incredibly difficult to change or transform. We continue to create new sins, piling them upon the old ones. The weight of this becomes immense—as high as Mount Sumeru and as deep as the vast ocean. Such a heavy burden of karma is truly beyond what our own limited strength can bear.

The Essential Practice of Purification

Therefore, I urge all of you to take your practice seriously. In the school, chanting Namo Amituofo is an essential daily lesson. You must engage in this with diligent practice. By combining your own efforts with the Buddha's , you can achieve the following:

  • Stop the flow of delusions that cloud your mind.
  • Break through the deep-seated attachments that bind you to the cycle of rebirth.
  • Allow your Body-Mind-Spirit to undergo a true and lasting purification.

Transforming Through

As you listen to sutras and hear the Dharma, you will inevitably encounter teachings that highlight your own inappropriate thoughts, speech, and actions. This is not a cause for discouragement, but a cause for celebration. In the process of changing your ways, you must learn to transcend the control of your habitual personality traits and old habits. By doing so, you can reduce the obstacles in your path and even block the interference of negative forces. To correct your erroneous concepts, ideas, speech, and actions early—this is what it truly means to change your personality.

The Path to

This is especially true in your practice. You must maintain strict self-discipline, uphold the , and hold yourself to the highest standards of conduct. When your own efforts arise, you will receive the Buddha's blessings, which will grant you the power of meditative concentration. This concentration helps you avoid committing new transgressions and prevents your past karma from manifesting as obstacles. Through this, your practice will advance, your Wisdom will be revealed, and you will move steadily toward Awakening. Recorded and transcribed by Namo Amituofo’s disciple, Venerable HaiZe.
