The Voice in the Wind: A Spirit's Journey to Deliverance
An Interview with Lu Yunrong, a Spirit of the Northern Taiwan Mountains
Recorded by the Chief Writer, Shi Fa, on April 25, 2021

Lu Yunrong was a young girl from the northern mountains of Taiwan who tragically perished in a landslide while attempting to save the elderly members of her community. After years of wandering in the darkness of the earth, she was liberated by the compassionate chanting of Practitioner Su. Now serving as a wind spirit, she shares her story of transformation and her role in the recent prayer for rain in Taiwan. This interview was recorded by the Chief Writer, Shi Fa, on April 25, 2021.
Lu Yunrong speaks:
"Namo Amituofo. I have long heard of the name of Practitioner Su. His reputation is widespread, and he is regarded by all spirits as the light of salvation for this world. I am deeply grateful for the efforts Practitioner Su has made for all sentient beings. His compassionate heart, dedicated to the welfare of all, is something everyone should strive to emulate. I am truly honoured and deeply moved that Practitioner Su invited us to participate in the prayer for rain to save the world today.
A Tragic Mountain Tragedy
Taiwan is a precious island, and its people are inherently simple and kind. I once lived in the northern region, specifically in the mountainous areas. On a stormy night during a typhoon, I died in a landslide. When I passed away, I was buried under a massive amount of earth and stone, suffocating until my last breath.
So many years have passed, and I had never encountered anyone who could communicate with me. I was a young girl from the mountains, not yet an adult. At the moment of my death, I was terrified and in great pain. However, in my desire to save more of my people, I had already escaped to safety but turned back to run into the mountains to rescue the trapped elderly. Because of this, I missed my only chance to escape and perished in that mountain disaster. I was not even twenty years old at the time.
The Life of a Mountain Princess
I was born in the mountains and was the little princess of my family. I was cheerful and optimistic, and my people loved me dearly. It was just that this mountain disaster came so suddenly; no one had time to prepare, and the catastrophe took the lives of my kin. Fortunately, after that disaster, people began to take mountain landslide prevention measures seriously, and my people were finally able to live in a safer environment.
I did not become a wind spirit immediately. When I first died, I spent a very long time trapped within the earth. The environment I was in was pitch black. It was so cold and dark inside the soil, and I was constantly terrified. I could not find a way to leave such a place. I often wept in the darkness, wanting to escape, but I could not find anyone else.
The Light of Namo Amituofo
I waited in the darkness, hoping for a chance to escape. Finally, one day, I heard the sound of Practitioner Su chanting Namo Amituofo, coming from far away and drawing closer. Suddenly, I saw everything flying—even the soil that covered me flew into the air. Once everything flew into the sky, they all transformed into human shapes. I watched this miraculous scene in astonishment as these transformed beings walked toward a source of light. I saw them enter a white light and disappear very quickly. Just as I regained my , everything was gone. The surrounding environment had returned to its original state, as if nothing had happened. I was amazed that such a thing could occur!
I discovered that the feeling of being trapped in the mud was gone; my spirit had regained its freedom. When I heard Practitioner Su chanting again, I arrived in the wind. Every day, I flew with the breeze. This freedom made me feel so happy, as if I had returned to my childhood. I used to have such a free and easy life, but as I grew up, I lost that feeling. I never expected to have the chance to experience such freedom again. I enjoyed being alone in the wind; it was truly joyful.
Witnessing the Laws of
I do not know how long I spent in the wind before I encountered a powerful air mass. I was quickly swept into it. The speed was incredible, and I was spun around until I was dizzy. When I finally regained some clarity, I realised I had encountered a typhoon. I saw the powerful wind and rain carried within the air mass. It was such an overwhelming force that I could not help but feel a little panicked. Just as I was worrying about how to escape this insane storm, the typhoon finally began to weaken, and I took the opportunity to flee.
After I escaped, I found that many places the typhoon had passed through were left in ruins. Looking at the disasters reported everywhere, I felt so sad. I did not know that this typhoon could destroy the environment to such an extent. I saw many places flooded, many trees snapped by the strong winds, and many utility poles blown down, causing power outages in various areas and leaving them in darkness after nightfall. The aftermath of the wind disaster made me feel miserable, and this made me determined to help everyone.
I observed the changes in wind direction and rainfall for a long time while in the wind, but I discovered that I could not change anything. All climate changes are related to the laws of karma and cause and effect. I saw the wind speed, the rate of rainfall, and the volume of precipitation—these were all arranged and scheduled. This was my first time witnessing the laws of karma. I never realised that the power of Collective Karma could have such a massive impact!
The Destruction of Nature
I recalled that my people liked to eat non-vegetarian food, often catching wild chickens, boars, and rabbits in the mountains, as well as fish in the streams. Originally, my people would follow natural laws and coexist with nature, never killing excessively. But now, with the changes in human hearts, everyone kills in large numbers for survival and personal gain. The clearing of mountain forests and the excessive logging of trees have made the entire environment different from before. Nature has been damaged, and the ecology has changed rapidly. When the natural world can no longer bear it, the result is unpredictable disasters and even greater changes that are difficult for everyone to imagine or endure.
When I saw this, I knew that although the process of these natural disasters is terrifying and horrific, they were all caused by humans destroying the environment bit by bit, eventually leading to such calamities. Now, we can see that the environment and climate have undergone tremendous changes, and frequent, varied weather patterns are causing great harm to the ecology and the environment. When I saw these wind gods, rain gods, lightning gods, and thunder gods arranging different climates for a region, I knew these were all due to the laws of karma. It is not something anyone can change, because these are the results of everyone's Collective Karma.
A Path to Liberation
I sighed at all these changes in the world. Although I felt very sad seeing the climate changes and the impact on the environment, I could not offer any help while witnessing these karmic processes. I began to search for a power in the wind that could bring change. At first, I could not find any strength at all. Later, a sound awakened great hope in me—it was the sound of Practitioner Su chanting Namo Amituofo.
In a chance encounter, I heard Practitioner Su chanting again. I found that this sound was very powerful and could penetrate through space. I followed this sound, striving to spread it to more places. I hoped to spread the compassionate power of Practitioner Su to help this world make more changes. Since that time, whenever Practitioner Su performs spiritual deliverance through chanting, I follow the wind and spread the Buddha-name to further places. I hope to let this magnificent power help everyone. I do not know how much time passed, but because of Practitioner Su's chanting, my spirit became clearer. I was liberated from the space I was in within the wind, and I arrived in the heavenly realms, becoming a wind spirit. I know it was the sound of Practitioner Su's chanting that saved me. I have always been very grateful for Practitioner Su's help, and the power of his compassionate chanting has deeply influenced me. I am so grateful!
The Call to Save the World
Since then, I have continued to spread the sound of Practitioner Su's chanting. Becoming a wind spirit has given me my own duties and tasks, but I have not forgotten to assist sentient beings alongside Practitioner Su. I believe Practitioner Su is a truly great saviour, and I firmly believe that following Practitioner Su is the most correct choice.
Recently, I received a mission assigned by the Jade Emperor: Practitioner Su is to perform a prayer for rain in Taiwan. I am very excited and happy to participate; I am delighted to have such an opportunity. Through Practitioner Su's powerful spiritual deliverance and his compassionate vow, I have seen truly inconceivable scenes. All Collective Karma and have been temporarily eased because of Practitioner Su's merits and his boundless spiritual deliverance.
Practitioner Su is truly a saviour sent by the Buddha. I have seen that for the sake of praying for rain, he not only invited the Jade Emperor to assist but also engaged in continuous, day-and-night spiritual deliverance to resolve the karma in these spaces. Practitioner Su follows the Truth and conducts the prayer for rain in a way that does not violate the laws of karma. In this process, he has to face the Collective Karma of so many different people, yet Practitioner Su does not fear the hardships, nor does he shrink away when countless beings come to him for help. He never complains of suffering; he remains persistent and sincerely wants to carry out this prayer for rain. Practitioner Su's leadership truly makes us spirits feel deep respect. We are grateful for his dedication to sentient beings. This prayer for rain will surely proceed smoothly, and all the spirits will do their best to assist, as we also wish to learn from Practitioner Su.
I am grateful for the compassionate power of Practitioner Su, and I am once again thankful that he allowed us to join—to join in the Buddha’s teachings to save the world. I am very grateful and very joyful. Here, I truly feel a hope for life; this is a place where all life can attain liberation.
With palms joined in gratitude, Namo Amituofo.
