The Wisdom of an Expansive Heart
Teachings from Namo Amituofo

Cultivating the Seeds of Virtue
Namo Amituofo offers this essential guidance to all practitioners. Before you reach the state of no-mind, while you still possess a mind that is subject to the conditions of this world, it is vital that you focus on the cultivation of your inner virtues. You must nurture the four immeasurable qualities of the heart:
- :
- Developing a heart that wishes for the well-being and happiness of all beings.:
- Cultivating the desire to alleviate the suffering of others.:
- Finding genuine happiness in the virtues and successes of others.: Maintaining a balanced and peaceful heart that is not swayed by the ups and downs of life.
Beyond these virtues, you must also learn to broaden your heart. Do not allow yourself to remain restricted by the experiences and encounters of your past. The burdens of yesterday do not need to define your tomorrow.
The Path of Infinite Inclusion
Begin this practice of expansion from this very moment. You are encouraged to become more tolerant, more generous, and more inclusive in your daily life. This means learning to embrace all things, all beings, and all spirits with a heart that is wide and open. You should start this practice within your immediate circle:
- Open your heart:
- Let go of narrow perspectives that keep you confined.Embrace your fellow practitioners:
- Treat those who walk the path alongside you with patience and understanding.Cherish your family and friends: Extend your kindness to those closest to you, as this is the foundation of your practice.
When you truly broaden your heart, you will find that it does not matter how others treat you, how they perceive you, or how they act towards you. You will be able to respond to every situation with compassion and a peaceful mind. If you can maintain this state, where could anger possibly find a place to take root?
Gratitude for the True Spiritual Friend
A true spiritual friend is rare and difficult to encounter in this world. When such a teacher offers you guidance, or points out your shortcomings and areas where you are lacking, you must receive these words with a heart full of gratitude. By acknowledging your mistakes, changing your ways, and striving to improve, you will certainly gain great benefits on your spiritual journey.
Only those who have attained deep meditative concentration and have realised their true nature can manifest a stern appearance to teach beings, while their own hearts remain completely undisturbed. Such beings are fully endowed with compassion, joy, equanimity, generosity, and inclusivity. Through their presence, they inspire beings to recognise their own faults and cease their harmful actions.
The Infinite Nature of No-Mind
To broaden your heart is still to have a mind, and having a mind means there are still limitations. However, the state of no-mind is infinite. Those who have realised their true nature possess this no-mind; yet, they encompass all things and contain all hearts within them. They are not restricted by the constraints of time or space.
In this state, any form of mind can be manifested as needed to teach and save beings, depending on the circumstances and the capacity of those they encounter. To save beings while remaining in the freedom of no-mind, and to act with diligence while having no personal desires—this is the true way a Buddha manifests in the world. Namo Amituofo.
