When the deep cold of winter arrives, frost and snow descend upon the earth, blanketing the world in a pristine, white silence. This natural cycle of hibernation and cold weather often stirs the hearts of many people, prompting deep reflection. It is a perfect moment for transformation—a time to turn your thoughts and transform your .
The phenomena of the natural world, whether they appear favourable or harsh, are all manifestations of our Collective Karma. When the collective karma we experience is wholesome, we all feel and benefit from it. However, when the collective karma we experience is unwholesome, it gives rise to afflictions. Our Body-Mind-Spirit becomes unsettled, and this can lead to significant changes and even harm to our environment.
Within this vast ocean of collective karma, there exists individual karma. It is this individual karma that causes each person to have unique encounters and experiences. These experiences can differ greatly depending on whether you choose to transform your thoughts, look for the good, think good thoughts, speak good words, and perform good deeds.
When you encounter the days of frost and snow, the true test of your practice begins. Can you, as a practitioner, remain fiercely diligent? Can you continue to perform your duties and uphold your commitments regardless of the freezing environment? To move forward in a state of stability, with a heart that remains unmoved by external conditions—this is the true measure of your meditative concentration and your skill in practice.
If you can remain steadfast during the days of frost and snow, holding firmly to your duties as a practitioner without becoming lax, you will not be swayed by the environment. Do not let the cold slow your progress. Instead, use this time to become even more fiercely diligent. Overcome the external environment of frost and snow by strengthening your will and deepening your faith—both your faith in Amitabha Buddha and your faith in your own potential.
By remaining capable of upholding your practice, advancing steadily, making wise adjustments, and choosing the right , you will enter the state of Awakening. You will then walk the path of the Buddha, working to save yourself and others, reaching the and finding one's own Buddha nature.
