The Essence of True Practice
Practice is not merely a ritual; it is the fundamental process of adjusting and refining your heart. By doing so, you can fundamentally change the state of your body and spirit. This transformation allows you to shift away from the cycle of rebirth and the habits of a reincarnated mind. Through this diligent effort, you can remove impurities and attain purity, ultimately rediscovering the cool, free, and autonomous true self that has always been within you.
Understanding the Reincarnating Mind
What exactly is the mind of samsara? It is a mind that remains trapped in the cycle of rebirth, constantly tethered to the following influences:
- The : Greed, Anger, Ignorance, Arrogance, and Doubt, which follow us like shadows.
- The Five Roots of the Hells: Wealth, lust, fame, food, and sleep, which we find impossible to abandon.
- Emotional Turbulence: Living entirely within the shifting tides of , anger, sorrow, and happiness, and the pain of reunions and separations.
- Self-Centredness: Living in a world defined by the ego, where everything revolves around and is done for the sake of the self.
- External Seeking: Constantly looking outward for the satisfaction of desires and for validation from others.
- Inner Instability: Living in a state of anxiety, depression, and emotional volatility, with a heart that is never at rest.
Because we seek support from the outside world, we remain ignorant of the power of stability and the true self that lies within. We are often bound by intense personality traits and deeply ingrained habits that keep us anchored in the cycle of rebirth.
The Path to Transformation
How, then, can you transform this reincarnating mind and its associated actions? The key lies in the teaching: "Give rise to all and achieve the fruit of ." To achieve this, you must:
- Avoid creating negative and instead perform acts of Goodness consistently.
- Cultivate a positive outlook: see the good, speak the good, think the good, and do the good.
- Shift your focus from the self to the collective. True practice is not for your own benefit alone; it is for the sake of all beings.
- Live for others, work for others, and dedicate your life to saving and liberating all beings. Remember that you are also one of these beings, and your practice includes saving yourself and the many spirits residing within your own body.
When you transform your heart, your actions will naturally follow. This is the path to achieving a pure Body-Mind-Spirit. You must continue your diligent practice, breaking through obstacles and overcoming challenges until you reach the state of an awakened being.
